Sumary
Rivian is seeking a Lead, Design Standards on the Facilities Design team - a team that conceptualizes, designs, and builds all physical touchpoints of Rivian’s brand. This multifaceted position will focus on the development, growth, and management of design standards and the creation of architectural prototypes across all Rivian building types and programs, providing a solid foundation for the design team to work more efficiently and effectively. You are a creative designer who enjoys solving problems from a systems-oriented mindset while working in a fast-paced, start-up culture. You maintain a solid understanding of architectural and interior design and/or architectural standards and practices. You have experience creating and coordinating the creation of facilities design standards for an owner or operator of a global real estate portfolio
The Lead, Design Standards (Facilities) is an individual contributor role on a growing team, supporting the entire Rivian Design team and interfacing with cross-functional groups. Your work pertains to the full life cycle of projects, from programming to operations. The role combines two focus areas – Standards and Prototyping.
Standards - You will help enact a strategic plan to scale the efforts of our design team, developing and deploying tools and processes including program standards, design guidelines, standardized schedules, product databases, templates, and design strategies.
Prototyping - You will support the research and development of architectural prototypes that define the pipeline of scalable projects across a variety of facilities programs. A prototype defines the programming, budget, and layout of a Rivian facilities type.
Responsibilities
Support the maintenance of a comprehensive library of design guidelines and specifications (Furniture, fixture, equipment, etc.) and support project teams delivering Rivian facilities projects.
Directly author, or coordinate the authoring by a consultants of design requirement narratives
Train and enable partners and teams how to use standards and apply them to projects.
Work with the pre-construction team to establish prototypical costs and baseline budgets for facilities projects.
Translate brand vision and design philosophy into actionable design standards
Lead interviews and workshops with program stakeholders and end users to develop spatial programs and establish design criteria
Interface directly multi-functional facilities teams in real estate, construction, engineering, and operations to document project goals and requirements.
Identify areas to streamline and improve the design process and the applications of standards to projects throughout the facilities department
Innovate, develop, and roll out custom tools and processes to support the Design Team and ensure design quality
Collaborate with design technology and BIM managers to deploy scalable workflows and solutions
Identify and onboard strategic partners through RFPs, such as A&E firms, fabricators, and specialty consultants
Develop innovative designs and strategies for prototypical project types through concept and schematic design proposals
Design development documentation; including drawings, schedules, specifications, and custom details
On occasion, you may be asked to support project teams with construction administration – assisting teams with submittals, RFIs, and site walks.
Manage and direct consultant teams of architecture and design partners.
Work cross-functionally with Purchasing and Capex teams to support new and existing strategic partnerships with suppliers.
Qualifications
5+ years of architectural or interior design experience
A Bachelor’s degree in architecture, interior design, technical design, or related field is required
Strong portfolio demonstrating built commercial interior design or architecture experience
Effective communication skills, both verbal and visual
Be resourceful, innovative, and proactive
Ability to work in a team environment, under tight deadlines
Ability to present to large groups of people and leadership teams.
Excellent Autodesk Revit skills, proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, and AutoCAD
Proficient in learning new software and workflows
Ability to self manage and own initiatives, developing comprehensive work plans, setting goals, and executing results.
A plus: Knowledge of Airtable and excel
A plus: Familiarity with Microsoft Share Point
Salary Range for California Based Applicants: $163,000 - 188,000 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
