Qualitative analysis and visibility
This division of Flexport Research works with our team of economists and statisticians to develop, present and publish research for both external and internal audiences. We also write regular commentary covering topics related to trade and the global economy, more broadly. The successful candidate will be involved in expanding our coverage to key countries and regions throughout the world.
Description
As an editorial intern, you will report to the senior editor, who is based in Flexport’s headquarters in San Francisco. You will also work with other economists and interns on the Flexport Research team as and when the need arises. The role will be focused primarily on our public-facing research, such as the Weekly Economic Report, weekly Commentary pieces and our monthly proprietary data releases, although there may be instances when you are asked to contribute to work for an internal audience.
Specific duties include:
Providing research assistance to the chief economist and senior editor
Editing public-facing research
Formatting reports for publication
Pitching ideas for Commentary pieces
Data manipulation and presentation
The position can be remote as long as the candidate is located within the US, with a preference for in-person hybrid within the San Francisco, CA office. This is a three month intern full-time position.
Background and skills
The ideal candidate will be a staff writer or editor on their college newspaper and have taken basic economic courses, with intermediate levels preferred. We are willing to consider candidates with different backgrounds, however.
In addition, we are looking for proficiency in:
MS Word and Docs
Excel and Sheets (crucially, an ability to make charts and tables)
PPT and Slides

The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range displayed, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and / or training.
The US base salary range for this full-time position: (exclusive of bonus, equity and benefits.) $34 — $35 USD
