Which means your work is essential for transforming everywhere.What is the primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?As a VMC SRE you will be responsible for maintaining, monitoring, and securing our production environment at scale. Through our on-call rotation you will maintain 99.99% availability of the service by responding to incidents. You will look for opportunities to improve the product through bugs and feature requests to the engineering service owners. You will look for and execute on opportunities to improve SRE's response through monitoring, runbooks, and automation. You will influence product roadmap and provide meaningful feedback during design of new services and features with an SRE mindset.Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?Within 30 days complete new-hire onboarding, security, and compliance training, and begin shadowing the team.Come up to speed and learn how to function independently as a Site Reliability Engineer.Become proficient in the tooling used by VMC SRE to perform fleet maintenance, security patching, and incident management.Within 60 days contribute Python or Bash scripts and StackStorm workflows to reduce toil.Within 90 days join our 24*7 rotation and leverage your deep technical understanding of at least two important areas of VMC (data center networking, vSphere, NSX, vSAN, and AWS) to resolve incidents.Within 180 days identify and contribute to end-to-end automation efforts.You must be adaptable, think fast on your feet, have good instincts based on prior experience, and be ambitious to take on more responsibility.The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?Contribute to Code ReviewsReduce human toil through automation.Reduce mean time to detect through monitoring improvements.Reduce mean time to repair through runbook improvements and automation.Resolve monitoring alerts and customer escalations as part of a 24*7 Operations (Rotational shifts)React to new issues by filing bugs with service owners and collaborating to remediate the fleet.Work with other VMC teams to provide a consistent service for all VMC offerings across the VMware service portfolio.What is the leadership like for this role?
