Within the Core Technology organization, the Site Network Engineering team is responsible for the design and engineering of the production fabrics that connect eBay's computing and storage fleet at data centers, POPs and other properties. We are passionate about what we do and excited about where we are going.About the role:The eBay Site Network Engineering team is leading the evolution of the eBay data center network fabric toward a disaggregated and open-source centered design, driven by advanced custom automation. The Site Network Engineering team is seeking an expert infrastructure software engineer who has the skills to help lead and deliver the fast pace of network innovation on time and with high quality. In this role you will have an opportunity to join a technology organization of diverse and talented engineers where teams collaborate, innovate, and support one another to blaze the trail to next generation infrastructure.As a Senior Infrastructure Software Engineer on the Site Network Engineering team, you will:Have the knowledge and expertise to meaningfully contribute towards highly available designs and implementations of critical network infrastructure driven by model-based closed loop automation.Design and develop on-box and off-box software which will be the basis of a highly available and automated network, where the on-box software is SONiC and the off-box software is a custom model-based network controller.Codevelop multi-year network software and hardware strategy with the team.Drive thoughtful discussions with customers and peers, and be a positive contributor in the larger eBay technology strategy.Collaborate with software and hardware technology suppliers and software development and support partners to deliver the right solutions at the right time with high quality.Contribute to the advancement of continuous and thorough network software and hardware testing to achieve a highly available and automated network system.Work closely with network operations teams to improve quality and efficiency in all aspects of operations.The Site Network Engineering team is based in San Jose, but remote work would be a consideration for applicants with exceptional skills and the ability to work remotely.Desirable qualifications:5+ years in the role of senior software development engineer in the networking space.5+ years of hands-on experience developing software for network operating systems or network controllers, preferably with Golang or a similar modern language.Has strong understanding of BGP and IPv6 at both network and software levels.Working knowledge of open-source network software like SONiC and FRR, and ODM network hardware is a plus.Familiarity with the life cycles within large data centers is also a plus.Is a proponent and practitioner of formal engineering process and rigor in carrying out R&D projects, including testing.Is an effective written and spoken communicator and is disciplined about documentation.Benefits are an essential part of your total compensation for the work you do every day. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave).
