Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.  As a company, we constantly challenge what’s possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.  ROLE SUMMARY The Manufacturing Test Engineering team has influence throughout the production line, engaging in any stations where tests are performed on the vehicle or subassemblies. We design and build novel test stations from the ground up, as well as deliver custom solutions to increase quality and decrease downtime at stations that are underperforming. On this team, you will have a direct impact on increasing the number of vehicles Rivian can deliver to our customers. This opening can be located at our Normal, IL facility, Atlanta, GA, or Irvine, CA, and reports directly to the Sr. Manager, Manufacturing Engineering. RESPONSIBILITIES Define and implement drive unit, battery module, battery pack, vehicle subassembly, and end-of-line testing requirements in collaboration with product design, software, and integration teams.  Execute DFMEA/PFMEA to ascertain the most impactful tests. Optimize tests for manufacturing in collaboration with cross functional teams, considering metrics such as quality, rate, and capital expenditure.  Conduct make-or-buy analysis to determine the optimal implementation solution for Rivian. Provide feedback to product design teams during component and subsystem validation testing phases of the product design cycle. Take ownership of custom, automated test solutions from the design and prototype phase through implementation into the production line including concept reviews, design reviews, commissioning, acceptance testing, start of production, ramp, and training for handoff to operations. Utilize schematic and harness design to document and communicate your ideas to assembly shops. Assemble and test prototypes firsthand. Ensure on-time delivery and robust design that can withstand hundreds of thousands of cycles, whether it is an electrical device, wire harness, electrical panel, test rack, or an entire test station by leveraging your high-volume manufacturing experience and strenuous trials of prototypes to prove your design will endure. Coordinate assembly and installation of stations on factory floor by communicating assembly instructions to contractors under your supervision and bringing the facility, ops, maintenance, integration, and design teams together. Lead investigations of test failures and ensure all issues are driven to resolution, including immediate mitigation and permanent solution. Optimize quality derived per unit of cycle time by challenging assumptions that aren’t backed by engineering fundamentals. Think fast, prioritize, and make decisions that benefit Rivian.
