Your work will involve solving many challenging engineering problems in a large-scale internal private cloud including observability, monitoring, infrastructure as code, and many other development efforts. If you are passionate about solving real-life complex problems and not afraid of learning top of the line technologies, then this is the right opportunity for you.Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?Within the first 2 months: become competent with teams supported infrastructure and responsibilities with respect to standard operations. Within the first 4 months: independently handle troubleshooting incidents. Also provide solutions or inputs for project implementation. Within the first 6 months: you will be expected to contribute to our observability, monitoring, auto remediation, and infrastructure as code. After 6 months+: you will be a subject matter expert in one or more areas of our environment, helping drive the design, implementation, and evangelizing the mindset and adoption.The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What is the structure and culture of the team like?This position reports to Geremy Gibson, Manager for the Cloud Operations team under VPS (VMware Platform Services) BU within OCTO (Office of the Chief Technology Officer). Geremy has 18 years' experience across the software spectrum including: Lead Quality Assurance Automation Test Engineer, Source Control Management Administrator, and Software Development including being the technical lead for VMware vRealize Operations Manager Deployment and Configuration team. He has been with VMware for 11 years and is passionate about software development, design, and helping our team improve the quality and reliability of our services through code. The Cloud Operations team is distributed across the globe and follows the SRE practice of the software engineering approach to IT operations.Where is this role located?Flexible/Remote: The location of this role is flexible within the United States. The actual offer will be based on the role, location, and individual candidate experience. Bonus, commission, and/or equity may be eligible for this position.
