Lead small to medium scale Sustainability projects and the roll out of engineering initiatives. Assists with development and implementation of engineering design standards, policies and procedures. Effectively interacts with other internal and external teams, including the design engineering, site engineering, construction management and the campus operations team, onsite support vendors and consultants on projects, policies and procedures. Plans and directs day to day operations and strategic direction of delivery of either a project or delivery of operations for a data center facility.ResponsibilitiesFacility / Infrastructure maintenance supportInteracts with other engineering, design and construction disciplinesWorks with the capacity and site engineering teams to resolve power and/or cooling limitations and optimize resource utilizationEngage with Global Design & Construction team to review cooling designs for new data centersSupport for the configuration of Mechanical Equipment/Systems, and subsequent adjustments as IT load increasesRaise awareness of campus operations teams on good energy efficiency practices in cooling, following the guidelines of the Centre of ExcellenceLead air flow management & cooling optimization, detecting & implementing improvementsPrepare feasibility studies for projects (e.g.: reconfiguration of the Mechanical Equipment/Systems settings)Leadership and CommunicationsContributes to mentoring campus team members on best practicesSupport all infrastructure improvement projectsDirects external vendors per project or initiative such as General Contractors, A&E design teams, commissioning agents, equipment suppliers, etcSite Administration & Documentation SupportPerforms specialized site logs and data gathering for issuing of permits, such as Maintenance Operation Protocol (MOPs) and scriptsIdentifies Single Points of Failure (SPOFs) and makes recommendations for solutionsConsistently solves complex, cross-functional issues requiring independent action and a high degree of initiative to resolveMakes recommendations for system level enhancements to eliminate potential problems.Tests suitability of components or action plans for deploymentsProvides support to local Ops Engineering teams to manage and optimize air flow and Mechanical Equipment/Systems settingsCompletes skilled work requests and circuit installationsPerforms advanced troubleshooting and maintenance of office equipment (if necessary); supports auxiliary equipment and machines with problem solving and repairs to avoid/minimize downtimeMakes moderate changes to mechanical, electrical and specialized systems, as directedCarries out more complex infrastructure projectsSupports life cycle maintenance/end of life. infrastructure projects and critical replacementsMay recommend infrastructure projectsCollaborationCollaborates with data center campus engineers to resolve complex issuesEffectively collaborates within the department; may mentor team members on skilled maintenance activitiesInforms stakeholders of inventory needs to maintain optimal stock levels of critical parts and equipment, may support in coordinating processes for maintaining inventoryActs as a mentor to others in resolving incidentsQualificationsDegree in Mechanical Engineering, or relevant discipline with proven years of experience within HVAC system from data centre/ critical environment industryStrong technical background. Mechanical EngineeringHave experience in working with a wide range of stakeholders, both internally and externallyExpert operating knowledge of engineering systems to include advanced diagnostics and repairsAbility to apply knowledge of Equinix processes and procedures and industry standards to resolve non-routine issuesUtilizes safe working practices at an EXPERT level (e.g., can apply procedure for lockout/tag out, can explain MSDS, etc.).
