Senior Piping Engineer – Hydrogen PlantStatus: Exempt (salaried)Position SummaryThe Senior Piping Engineer is a critical member of the Hydrogen Production, Project Execution, and Development teams.  This position is responsible for developing and maintaining the design of hydrogen generation, compression, liquefaction, storage, and dispensing systems at all Plug Power plant locations. The Senior Piping Engineer will be an integral part to help in the enhancement of the current technology and assist in the development and design of new facilities. This role is vital to support Plug Power technology to further the Company’s reputation as the industry leader in green hydrogen production and fuel cell applications development.Core Duties and ResponsibilitiesSupport Plug’s project team, EPC and Sub-Vendors in the design of new Hydrogen facilities.Responsible to oversee EPC and vendor piping design deliverables through all stages of FEL and execution – layout, piping standard selection, pipe service index, line list, pipe stress and supports, isometrics, fabrications, quality assurance, installation, and testing.Select piping materials, evaluate service life and suitability.Perform pressure design calculations including minimum wall thickness, branch reinforcement, bend fittings pressure capacity, external pressure, hydrostatic test pressure, etc.Assist in identification and selection of special piping components.Review Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) for proper piping and valving and conformance to specification.Utilize 3D model (CADWorx/Navisworks/SmartPlant 3D) review software to monitor design quality and progress.Review EPC and vendor proposals and prepare bid evaluations and technical recommendations.Support other mechanical engineering roles such as pressure vessels, heat exchangers, and rotating equipment.Proactive in providing value-added solutions to current designs.Provide leadership in addressing design issues with considerations of cost, schedule, and quality.Develop specifications and standards for piping, valves, fittings, flanges, and other piping specialty items.Assist in the development of piping design criteria and guidelines.Support all new projects and active sites as required.Provides technical commissioning and startup support such as piping systems testing as needed to our operation team.Represent Plug Power in a professional manner at all times and in all interactions.Exempt employees are expected to work as many hours as is necessary to complete their job responsibilities.  This may require they work more than eight hours a day and more than five days or 40 hours per week.Education and ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an accredited institution, Master’s degree is preferred.Eight (8) or more years of relevant work history in Piping Engineering, minimum prior experience with gas processing, cryogenics, ASU, LNG systems.Must have experience in developing piping specification, performing piping wall thickness and stress calculation.Extensive experience in 3D piping design tools and model creation, review, and model deliverables.Deep knowledge of industry codes and standards including PIP, NFPA, API, ASTM, and ASME, B31.3/4/8/12.Experience performing field verification of piping for construction.Demonstrated analytical abilities with strong attention to detail.Must be driven and self-motivated.Ability to work with minimum supervision.Superior written and oral communication skills.Ability to manage complex projects and multi-task effectively.Experience in leading and/or coordinating cross-functional teams.Strategic thinker with exceptional analytical skills.Must possess the highest ethical standards and a commitment to work quality.Ability to travel as needed to carry out duties of the position – up to 15%.Preferred Skills and Experience:Experience with large scale construction projects, durations of 6 to 18 months.Preferred experience with Liquified Hydrogen/Helium Processes and Electrolyzers.Experience with balance of plant work for a new construction project.Experience in specifying and purchasing of mechanical equipment in addition to piping system.Experience in Vacuum jacketed pipingPay Rate:$86,815.00 - $138,904.00We offer a fantastic total rewards package at Plug, and a brief summary is below:✓Base salary is determined on a number of factors including but not limited to education, experience, skills, and geography.
