We enable real time insights across Workday’s platforms, infrastructure and applications. Our focus is on the development of large scale distributed data systems to support critical Workday applications. The team provides software for collection, ingestion, storage & visualization of critical data assets. We handle 100s of terabytes of data in the form of billions of messages produced daily by Workday applications and underlying services. If so, we should chat.About the RoleThis is a hands-on role, where you will be responsible for the architecture, standards, best practices for all things Observability at Workday. You will spend your time by working closely with the Observability Platform engineers, product managers, stakeholders, developing and maintaining standards, contributing to the Observability platform and acting as an evangelist for the platform. Here are some of the things you will be doing:Provide architectural leadership for Workday’s Observability Platform and Services. You will be the domain expert across all the pillars of Observability.Ensure Workday MTTx metrics are best in class by leveraging the Observability platform and services.Ensure a seamless Observability experience across data domains (logs, metrics, traces, alerts) and different infrastructure types (Virtualized, Kubernetes, Bare metal, etc.)Drive standardization of the Observability tooling, develop and publish standards, leverage open source specifications (OpenTelemetry etc)Closely collaborate with the Infrastructure, Technology Operations & Product teams.Promote Observability to all Workday engineering teams. If you like trying new techniques and approaches to sophisticated problems, love to learn new technologies, are a natural collaborator and an excellent teammate who brings out the best in everyone around you, then give us a shout!Basic QualificationsBS/MS in Computer Science or a related technical fieldMust have at least 10+ years of software engineering/architect background and a proven track record of delivering high quality products at massive scaleIdeal candidate has 10+ years' experience writing high quality code (Java/Scala/Go/Python) and be able to design systems that meet the business needs.You have hands-on expertise in Observability platforms like Prometheus, Cortex, Grafana, Elasticsearch, M3DB, Jaeger/Zipkin etc. Expertise in building systems using these technologies will be a plus.Other QualificationsExtensive experience with data collection agents, loggers, and visualizing and correlating data sets from multiple domains.7+ years' experience with real-time alerting, in-stream enrichment and correlation of events, Rules and ML based alerting.You have deployed Observability across the OSI stack.Outstanding presentation skills to both technical and executive audiences.You have strong communication skills both written and verbal.#LI-MH5As a federal contractor, Workday is requiring all new hires to verify that they are fully-vaccinated against COVID-19 within 72 hours of beginning employment with Workday, consistent with applicable law.
