You will also be interfacing with the customer IT and OT teams, and contributing the knowledge you learn back to VMware Edge product team. The success of this project means we together have changed and defined new standards for manufacturers to build and operate their assembly lines with a fully digitalize infrastructure.The Edge team is a newly formed group within VMware Service Provider and Edge Business Unit (SEBU). We are a high-impact team working at the forefront of VMware's multi-cloud strategy, whose mission is to help our customers in their journey to the edge and to create new billion-dollar businesses for VMware. Our team believes in continuous learning, collaboration, and knowledge sharing. Not only you will be our on-site expert working with the customer but also will work with VMware ecosystem partners, VMware product and engineering teams, and regularly interface with our executives.From the technology perspective, you will be challenged to take VMware virtualization with its new real-time capability, containerization & microservices, orchestration, and Software Defined Network (SDN) to support OT workloads and integrate them into the OT environment to deliver IT-like agility and efficiency. And you will not have to do this alone. You will get the support of your peers and your leaders to accomplish the followingWithin 30 days, you will be introduced to the teams and individuals you will work with, both at VMware and on-site at customer locations. You will start to familiarize yourself with different pieces of OT technologies used by this automotive customer such as PLC, Industrial field buses and Ethernet, and MES at the concept and technical hands-on level. You will have a mentor who will help you settle into your new role.Within 90 days, you understand in detail the current and future capabilities of what VMware and our partners are building for this lighthouse customer. You establish your relationship with customer IT and OT teams and earn their trust. You will be leading the integration and testing of the complete solution working on-site at the customer factory and lab. You will regularly share your insight and what you learn to VMware development and partners who will be developing features and solutions required by this particular automotive customer.Within 180 days, you will have access to a beta version of the solution from VMware and our partners and will be working closely with customers to start validating and proving that the solution works end-to-end. There will be problems and you will lead the triage and resolution. You will play a key role in creating the blueprint that can be replicated not only in customers’ other locations but also in other customers. This is a critical time that we will rely on your knowledge and relationship to make the trial goes smoothly and address issues in a timely manner.Within 1 year, with your help, this project is a success and we will be in the news for the very first virtualized shop floor in production. You have just acquired the very rare skillsets of being someone with both IT and OT knowledge, not only on the technology side but how to operationalize and work across the two organizations. We will continue to rely on your expertise as our PS and support for the rollout of the solution at scale. Now you will be in high demand as we want to replicate this success with other customersWhat type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?A day in the life of Edge Solution Architect for Manufacturing will include many or all of the followingWork with customer IT and OT to create a design & architecture, test methodologies, and best practices to integrate VMware Edge solution into customer OT environmentAssist the customer engineers in designing, integration/scale testing, and troubleshooting VMware products used with other applications including MES, PLC, etc. This means hands-on work on the followingVMware: ESXi, vCenter, vSAN, NSX, Tanzu and ARIA automation and operation suite, HorizonPartner: PLC programming and IO devices using PROFINET protocolTry out new ideas in VMware or the customer lab. Create automation script to help with interoperation tests, performance benchmarking, and scale testingProvide guidance and examples of how to programmatically interface with VMware products through API calls (REST and Web Services API)Work with VMware engineering team to create a representation of customer setup including OT technologies such as PLC with PROFINET IOs in VMware lab, so VMware can validate the applications in-house prior to its software features being made available to the customer and partners for integration testingResolve any issues or conflicts that may arise from the integration effort with customer and partnersDocument the findings, and designs, and share the knowledge with VMware Edge product teamDeliver training on VMware products, and new features to customer and partner engineers to help them be proficient and understand VMware productsAttend the product team status meeting. Prepare and deliver a readout to VMware engineering and executivesWhat is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?You will report to Sr. Director of Solution Architecture within VMware Service Provider and Edge Business Unit (SEBU). He has over 20 years of industry experience as an individual contributor and leader in both established global companies and multiple successful startups. He believes in learning fast/failing fast, leading by example, and working as a team. He is looking for a highly motivated individual and self-starter who enjoys collaborating with team members who trust one another, make a difference, and are open to taking and giving feedback to the team including the leaders.Where is this role located?This role is a remote role based in Germany, allowing you the flexibility to work from the location you feel most productive and comfortable. However, you will spend 60% of your time as a resident expert at the customer site. In addition, this is still a global role as you will be working with engineers and product managers worldwide We need someone who is fluent in both English and German.
