Intellectual Property (IP) Litigation ManagerDescription -HP seeks an IP Litigation Manager with a STEM background and extensive patent litigation experience to join its US litigation team. The IP Litigation Manager position is primarily focused on handling patent litigation and other complex intellectual property disputes, from demand through final resolution. In general, an HP Litigation Manager handles all aspects of litigation cases, investigations, and non-litigation matters for the company, including development of strategy, defining of objectives, oversight of oral and written advocacy, oversight of discovery, alignment with business objectives, management of budgets, pursuit of indemnity, and development of PR strategy. Acts as an in-house version of the most knowledgeable partner on a case, knowing all key aspects of a case and reviewing all critical written materials for a matter. Cases may have a US focus but may include work on non-US matters. Must be willing to investigate facts, develop case theories, and pivot strategy when appropriate.Responsible for all aspects of hiring and managing outside counsel.Handles disclosures for SEC filings and related advice on contingency accounting for assigned cases.Responsible for budget forecasting for all assigned matters.Works with paralegals to gain business support for litigation requirements, clarify tradeoffs, set priorities, and escalate issues to drive results.Follows legal developments related to primary cases, for example, by following patent law nationally and internationally as those developments may affect a matter.Advises Head of Litigation, other senior legal staff, internal clients, and other internal stakeholders on specific cases, including risks, recommendations, strategic opportunities for settlement, and remedial efforts when appropriate.Acts as a strong team player for group and department. Supports work of the Litigation group, including reporting, operations, and budgeting. Supports work of department, including but not limited to recruiting, committee projects, due diligence for M&A, and support for D&I activities.Acts as a thought leader by networking effectively to share subject matter expertise and exerting influence across a broad cross-section of the organization as well as externally.Education and Experience Required:JD from accredited US law school with national recognitionMember in good standing of at least one state barTypically, 10+ years' experience at a premier national law firm or equivalentExtensive experience working on high-stakes US patent and other IP litigation, including experience litigating disputes in federal court, ITC and PTAB, including deposition, hearing, and trial experience.Work or leadership on D&I issues preferredPrior in-house experience is a plus but not requiredPro bono experience or community engagement is a plus but not required.Knowledge and Skills:Recognized authority on practical and academic knowledge of patents and patent litigation.Advanced mastery of how to operate successfully in US court and regulatory systems and ability to learn and navigate non-US legal systemsMastery in negotiating with or advising the most senior representatives of external and internal organizations on complex, high-impact legal mattersExcellent presentation, facilitation, networking and influencing skillsEnglish language skills, both verbal and written, sufficient to manage outside counsel, teach and advise clients and stakeholders, and compose and review legal briefs or other written submissions for US and international courts and regulators on complex, high-impact legal matters.HP offers a comprehensive benefits package, including:•  Dental insurance•  Disability insurance•  Employee assistance program•  Flexible schedule•  Flexible spending account•  Health insurance•  Life insurance  Per the Washington statute, the estimated range of compensation for this job in that location, at the time of this posting, is: USD $149,000 - $165,000 Annual.  This position may be eligible for incentive pay, for openings where this is applicable.We are reinventing the standard for diversity, equity, and inclusion — in how we operate as a company and impact society.
