Platform Solutions Firmware EngineerDescription -Directs the activities related to the analysis, design, programming, debugging, troubleshooting, and modification of software for firmware (IC embedded code) applications. Oversees programming activities involving analog and digital hardware and software operating systems. May have responsibility for the programming of assembly language, machine language and high level languages, including but not limited to C and C++. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.Responsibilities• Owns the preparation and creation of instructional technical manuscripts for firmware operation• Allocates resources to complete programming projects, and designing detailed plans to ensure firmware is functioning properly• Designs enhancements, updates, and programming changes for portions and subsystems of firmware, including DSP, embedded code, EFI drivers, EFI applications and BIOS/UEFI• Analyzes design and determines coding, programming, and integration activities required based on general objectives and knowledge of overall architecture of product or solution• Writes and executes complete testing plans, protocols, and documentation for assigned portion of application; identifies and debugs, and creates solutions for issues with code and integration into application architecture• Leads a project team of other firmware engineers and internal and outsourced development partners to develop reliable, cost effective and high quality solutions for assigned systems portion or subsystem• Collaborates and communicates with management, internal, and outsourced development partners regarding firmware design status, project progress, and issue resolution• Represents the firmware engineering team for all phases of larger and more- complex development projects• Provides guidance and mentoring to less- experienced staff membersKnowledge & Skills• Strong technical knowledge of complex software systems, including enterprise, middleware, firmware, and embedded systems• Adept at collecting and analyzing input from multiple sources (customers, sales, engineering, marketing, competitor, and management)• Significant experience in software development, systems engineering, software product management, or electrical engineering• Ability to understand and deal well with rapid development cycles and remain flexible in the face of uncertainty• Expertise in multiple firmware design tools and languages• Strong analytical and problem solving skills• Designing firmware, including interaction and integration with hardware design• Firmware testing methodology, including writing and execution of test plans, debugging, and testing scripts and tools• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; mastery in English and local language• Ability to effectively communicate product architectures, design proposals and negotiate options at management levelsScope & Impact• Decisions and actions typically impact multiple departments and may have downstream repercussions lasting multiple weeks• Advises various internal, partner, and customer teams on the needs and requirements of target markets• Works closely with architects and technology leads, directly engaging with internal and external software development teamsComplexity• Moderate: Some senior management interface; frequent cross-functional/cross-organizational interaction on execution of tactics• Applies developed subject matter knowledge to solve common and complex business issues within established guidelines and recommends appropriate alternatives.
