Director of Environmental Health and Safety Status: Exempt (salaried)                                                                  Position SummaryThe Director of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) for Energy Solutions Operations is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and maintenance of a comprehensive risk management program for hydrogen production and distribution that strives to go beyond regulatory compliance.  This role will ensure that Plug Power is in compliance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations in which we operate, including but not limited to occupational safety and health, waste management, environmental regulatory compliance, workers compensation, chemical control, industrial hygiene, fire safety and transportation. The Director of EHS also contributes to efforts that build a strong safety culture and ensure proactive measures to continuously improve Plug Power’s EHS program. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who can work independently and is comfortable multitasking in a fast-paced hydrogen production and distribution environment. This position requires a high level of interaction with site activities and throughout the organization, including both verbal and written communication.Core Duties and ResponsibilitiesResponsible person for managing Process Safety Program and strategy for hydrogen plant operations and distribution.Will work with other hydrogen plant Operations leadership to build a strong safety culture.Develop, lead, and manage regional Process Safety operation teams at facilities who will develop, plan and implement safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state and national regulations including those governed by OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), perform safety inspections, routine audits and surveys; prepare reports of findings and make recommendations on preventative measures where necessary.Serve as primary technical resource for questions and concerns involving Environmental Health and Safety issues.Provide leadership, guidance, and assistance in development, implementation and auditing  process safety programs in Energy Solutions for liquid hydrogen production/distribution plants aligned with applicable industry Recognized And Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (RAGAGEP) as well as with OSHA PSM requirements where necessary.Provide technical support to facilities to close gaps in PSI information and management systems, and evaluating/auditing of plant Process Safety Information (PSI). This includes leading and managing regional Engineers/Technicians to perform engineering calculations or interfacing with other technical resources to secure required documentation of PSI.Evaluation and upgrading of Safety programs in partnership with functional teams and corporate EHS Strategy. Provide process safety input, guidance, and evaluation on hydrogen plant development, including conducting and/or developing internal capability for PHA/HAZOP study for both new and existing facilities, reviewing 3rd party process safety design (facility siting study, and quantitative risk analysis).  Understand requirements in various locations for EHS compliance and implement appropriate programs for Field operations accordingly.Define and implement standard site Safety plan expectations for remote operating sites. Maintain EHS documentation including policies, forms, chemical inventory, training records, inspection records and facility Safety Reviews.Support development and delivery of effective Environmental Health and Safety training programs for the Company.Lead and participate in the Safety Team meetings, including development, recruitment, and implementation of team meetings and activities.Review/conduct post-accident investigations including Root Cause Analysis for process safety events, identifying possible accident causes and hazards; present recommendations for solutions (new policies/procedures) to avoid repeat incidents.Support sustainability/corporate social responsibility efforts across the organization.Support efforts for IATF 16959 certification and customer compliance programs.Advise leadership team on Safety compliance concerns and preventative actions.Set tone for a positive, learning Safety culture in the field through a robust Injury and Illness prevention program, observations, concern reporting and leading Safety indicators.Represent Plug Power in a professional manner in all interactionsPerform other duties as assignedExempt employees are expected to work as many hours as is necessary to complete their job responsibilities.  This may require they work more than eight hours a day and more than five days or 40 hours per week.Education and ExperienceBachelor’s degree in safety, chemical engineering or related field of studyFifteen (15) years of relevant EHS experience in the refining and chemical industry, hydrogen plant industry experience is highly preferredPrior experience as a technical trainer/instructor is highly preferredProfessional EHS certifications including Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or other related safety certifications are strongly preferredAble to interpret regulations and implement requirements in the work environmentKnowledge and broad technical background with federal and state regulations (OSHA, RCRA, DOT, DEC)Ability to analyze information, develop and deliver training programs, adapt policies, create reporting and proven progressive experience to offer recommendations for continuous improvementProven skill set with a variety of computer and software programs including: PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook and others.Capability to present information effectively to diverse audiences and stakeholders while responding to questions from groups of managers, employees and the leadership teamProven leadership, teamwork and flexibility to manage changes in projects and prioritiesAbility to write reports and procedural manualsExceptional public speaking skillsSuperior communication skillsAbility to manage complex projects and multi-task effectivelyExcellent follow-throughPay Rate:$75,240.00 - $112,860.00We offer a fantastic total rewards package at Plug, and a brief summary is below: ✓ Base salary is determined on a number of factors including but not limited to education, experience, skills, and geography.
