Search JobsJob DescriptionThe Elevator Pitch: Why will you enjoy this new opportunity? This Staff QA Engineer position in the VMware Service Provider & Edge Business Unit provides you with a technical leadership opportunity in a team that is building an innovative new product envisioned to disrupt the telecom industry.  In this role, you will be responsible for driving QA testing and test automation, assuring the end-to-end product quality and defining processes and best practices for improving long-term productivity and efficiency of the team.  You will leverage your experience and expertise in testing large-scale real-time distributed systems (think stream processing frameworks like Flink or Heron, message buses like Kafka or Confluent, databases like Cassandra or ElasticSearch, REST APIs) and cloud-native applications (think container technologies like Kubernetes and Docker, cloud platforms like VMware, AWS, Azure or Google Cloud) to help build a product that is highly available, reliable, scalable, performant and secure.  In the process, you will work with the latest and greatest in cloud, networking and 5G, collaborate closely with experts in these fields, experience first-hand the process of building a new product, and work in an environment that provides ample learning and career growth opportunities. Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?  As a QA technical leader, you will define and drive testing and automation strategies across test pillars for a new VMware product at the intersection of cloud, networking and 5G. Within 30 days of joining, you will become familiar with the cloud-native product architecture and the services and APIs offered by the product, and gain hands-on experience with product deployment and operations, build and CI/CD pipelines, and testing and automation frameworks currently used by the team. Within 60 days, you will create internal as well as customer-facing test plans for the product and accordingly define how to extend and expand the testing and automation frameworks. Within 90 days, you will define test scope for the upcoming product releases and actively participate in sprint planning. Within 180 days, you will mentor junior QA engineers in the team and collaborate with developers and architects to make the product highly available, reliable, scalable, performant and secure. Within 360 days, you will be the authority and go-to person for all things related to product quality for product management, field engineering and SRE teams.  The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?  Your regular activities may be modified to suit your professional strengths, but you can expect a variety of the following assignments:  Define and drive testing and automation strategies for a new VMware product; own the end-to-end quality Lead development of internal as well as customer-facing test plans and test cases Perform end-to-end system, scale and performance tests, and report, organize results and outcomes. Increase overall automation of end-to-end testing and implement strategies to improve test efficiencies. Implement and document automation framework and testing best practices Collaborate with product managers and developers to create and review release targets and sprint plans Collaborate with developers, solution architects, field engineers and SREs to make the product highly available, reliable, scalable, performant and secure. What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like? The hiring manager for this role is Giridhar Jayavelu. Giridhar is a Director of R&D in VMware and leads a R&D engineering team that is responsible for operational aspects of products in the open RAN space. Giridhar joined VMware in 2007 and had worked on several key products in VMware such as vSphere, NSX, VMware Integrated OpenStack, Uhana.
