The Enterprise Architects are dedicated to ensuring our customers are successful in achieving their strategic goals and accelerating VMware’s transformation into a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) business. As an Enterprise Architect within the Professional Services Organization, you’ll be working with our most strategic customers to ensure they are successful in realizing their business outcomes, by enabling them to adopt and consume our advanced products and technology. You will provide strategic vision and leadership to both internal and external stakeholders driving the customer’s ‘Future State Architecture’. Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing? As an Enterprise Architect, you hold responsibility for understanding a customer’s business goals, use cases and associated technology roadmap, becoming a trusted advisor and assisting them in achieving their business outcomes through innovative use of technology. You will acquire intimate knowledge of the customer's business and its strategic goals and use your knowledge of VMware solutions and the broader multi-vendor IT landscape to define the customer’s ‘Future State Architecture’. Within 30-days of employment, you’ll be assigned your first strategic customer and start leveraging your knowledge and architecture experience to help strategic customers understand their barriers to adoption and consumption as part of their journey to realizing their desired business outcomes. Within 60-days of employment, you’ll be influencing external & internal stakeholders, anticipating challenges, and taking pro-active action to address them. Taking ownership of the definition of the ‘Future State Architecture’ for multiple strategic customers, leading technical teams, and updating the customer account team on their journey. Educating customers on viable options and gaining consensus across the customer organisation and within VMware. After 90 days you will be evolving into a thought leader and go-to-person for enterprise architecture best practices within your regional organization (Professional Services/Enterprise Architecture team). You will be expected to create intellectual property to help evolve Enterprise Architecture within VMware, including approaches, artefacts, tools and frameworks. The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis? As an Enterprise Architect, success in this role will be built on your ability to: Work with a select group of our most strategic customers to define their ‘Future State Architecture’ and capabilities/technology roadmap, advocating appropriate VMware solutions to support their strategic outcomes and ‘Future State Architecture’. Become embedded with the customer and be part of the relevant customer architecture governance function. Gather and validate customer use cases, pain points, risks, opportunities, KPIs, and lifecycle data to form a solid current state definition, while gaining consensus from customer technical stakeholders on program direction Using your technical and architecture experience, you’ll support strategic customers in translating their desired business outcomes to technology requirements and associated KPIs to form a solid understanding of the desired state and foundation for a customer technology/capability roadmap. Interface with domain architects to deliver subsets of the overarching solution(s) and mentor as appropriate Maintain relationships with senior stakeholders (up to C-Level) in the customer and within VMware. Drive change within both companies. Work in partnership with the sales and delivery teams, to understand desired outcomes, technical objectives, and service requirements to support the development of the solution, strategy and services roadmaps. Support pre-sales engagements and technical reviews for our largest and most complex accounts; support development of the overall consumption and adoption plans for the customer. Leverage your excellent English language communication, interpersonal and documentation skills to capture and articulate solution design, integrating both technical and business concepts, and present high-impact deliverables to customer stakeholders to communicate complex technical topics to both technical and non-technical audiences. Oversee technical projects to ensure alignment with customer’s strategic objectives and ‘Future State Architecture’ and where needed, serve as design authority across multiple technical delivery teams. Instil confidence with our strategic customers by maintaining a broad level of knowledge across the VMware portfolio and technologies related to Datacentre, Network, Security, Storage, Public Cloud, Private Cloud, Modern Applications, and Systems Management with a focus on these as components of a broader solution and understanding interoperability. Bring the voice and sentiment of the customer(s) to the VMware Business Units, Product Management and developer communities to affect positive change on product specifications, direction, and priorities. Capture learnings from customer engagement(s) to feed continuous feedback cycle in support of growing an Architecture Community, focused on standardised practices, across VMware. Steve has worked with VMware for over 14 years, has 35 years in the IT industry and experience in Education, Sales, Pre-sales and Consulting. Where is this role located? Flexible. The role is considered flexible and will include working from customer offices, home or a VMware office location preferred for now is UK and secondary options are Germany (for a Germán speaker only) or KSA (for an Arabic speaker only).
