The EUC solutions include Unified Endpoint Management (UEM), Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), Digital Employee Experience (DEX), and Workspace Security.Job DescriptionReporting directly to Kyle Austin, SVP of Engineering, the CTO will serve as the chief technical spokesperson and be responsible for the vision, platform architecture, and technology strategy for the Business Unit. In addition, the CTO will play a role in stewarding the business unit’s research and advanced development efforts, as well as functioning as the business unit’s “face” to the academic and University research community. The CTO will craft the technology vision closely partnering with the EUC leadership team. S/he will serve as a coach, developer, listener, and leader, while helping EUC be a destination for top tier technical talent. The CTO is expected to spend about 70% of their time focused internally, with the other 30% focused externally. Specifically, the CTO – EUC will:Continually investigate and assess the impact of emerging technologies against strategic business needs and interpret business valueChampion new technologies to drive innovation across the organization and deliver/improve product developmentEngage with the EUC field employees, customers, and partners to explain EUC’s technology vision in a manner that helps build commitment to this vision and drive adoption of our technology solutionsBuild C-level technical relationships with VMware’s customers and partners that result in deeper loyalty to EUC’s solutionExpand EUC’s influence with key industry thought leadersPlay an active leadership role as a member of VMware’s R&D technical communitiesOwn the innovation process for the business unit including internal innovation events and forumsOversee the patent portfolio and patent generation program for the business unitSpeak broadly as to the vision and face of the company at multiple forumsRecruit, develop and retain the best technical talent in the marketCandidate ProfileThe ideal candidate will be a proven technology visionary with a reputation for driving innovation within a dynamic, global technology environment. The CTO must be able to visualize and communicate the transformational potential of emerging technologies for EUC, demonstrating the ability to disrupt the industry while helping VMware to maintain and expand its competitive advantage. In addition to demonstrating strong strategic acumen and planning skills, s/he must be an excellent technologist with sufficient engineering credentials to be respected throughout the organization.The CTO should have worked in an environment of comparable technical complexity to EUC and VMware. Significant software design, architecture, and implementation experience so that they understand the challenges in developing complex software solutions and have credibility within the R&D community. The successful candidate will need to build effective internal and external relationships, possess strong communication skills, and be able to interact with individuals at all levels. In addition to performing external, evangelist and strategic activities, EUC’s CTO should be able to influence challenging internal stakeholders with respect to key product architecture decisions. Candidate would likely have 15+ years of deep technical experience including security and cloud architectures.
