Search JobsJob DescriptionThe Elevator Pitch: Why will you enjoy this new opportunity?VMware Workstation and Fusion team is part of the Cloud Platform Business Unit (CPBU) R&D organisation responsible for delivering VMware Desktop Hypervisor products VMware Workstation and Fusion for Windows, Linux, and mac OS. The team works on the application side of VMware’s desktop virtualisation software development with a specific focus on security, performance, and interoperability with other VMware products within CPBU.This team builds VMware Workstation and Fusion using C, C++, and Objective C on different platforms like windows, Linux and Mac(x86 and ARM). Also uses go and python for product building, development and testing. This team also owns user interfaces and installers across the Windows, Linux, and Mac(x86 and ARM) platforms for VMware Workstation and Fusion products.The primary role of this position is to be responsible for designing and developing VMware’s desktop virtualisation software in collaboration with other VMware teams and strategic partners.Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?You will be responsible for designing, developing, and delivering priority features by working with the key stakeholders, including PMs, architects, and other team members, and across geographic locations.You will be expected to produce software design and corresponding code with the highest quality. You are an active contributor to a large volume of code, design wikis, and code reviews. These designs and code must meet VMware and industry quality standards.Our team firmly believes in “Dev Owns Quality”, and we expect to release our products with near-zero defects and no regressions. You will deliver automated tests and documentation to support the implementation of new features and functionalities in the Desktop Hypervisor product and help solve any customer issues in the product.We operate as one team across the globe, and as such, everyone owns every aspect of the product, from developing new capabilities to supporting customer issues.You will also become familiar with the development and CI/CD processes in place in the Desktop Hypervisor team. You will be able to independently take a code change from review across various platforms to production.The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?As a technology leader, you will:Work with the engineering teams and product management to review and refine delivery requirements.Work closely with other cross-functional leads and specialists across the product teams, and own end-to-end deliverables.Write technical design documents and hold reviews. Perform Work breakdown and plan execution in Jira for large features.Design and develop highly efficient code ensuring scalability, performance, security, and quality.Develop new features for VMware Workstation and Fusion. Services, user interfaces and APIs for these products are written in C, C++ and Objective C.Drive and embody the “Dev Owns Quality” culture.Provide technical leadership to the feature team. Lead design and code reviews.Triage and root cause regressions and bugs reported by our customers.Communicate with internal consumers of the team’s software and gather requirements and facilitate the adoption of your solutions.Mentor, and provide guidance to other team members.What is the leadership like for this role?
