The team focuses on the application side of VMware’s desktop virtualization software development with a specific focus on security, performance, and interoperability with other VMware products within CPBU.This team builds VMware Workstation, Fusion and VMRC using C, C++, and Objective C on different platforms like Windows, Linux and Mac (x86 and ARM). Also uses go and python for product building and development. This team also owns user interfaces and installers across the Windows, Linux, and Mac (x86 and ARM) platforms for VMware Workstation and Fusion products. The primary role of this position is to be responsible for designing and developing VMware’s desktop virtualization software in collaboration with other VMware teams and strategic partners.We are searching for dedicated and versatile engineers, who are passionate about working in a company whose culture is fanatical about innovation and fixated on delivering software products that solve our customers’ most challenging business needs. As a senior engineer, you’ll have the opportunity to make a significant and direct impact on our products, platform, and solve some of the most complex challenges in cloud computing.Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?Within your first 6 monthsYou will be expected to have good understanding of architecture and design of Workstation, Fusion and VMRC. You will participate in design discussions and feature development activities for the next version of Desktop Hypervisor products.You will be making code changes of low quantum to understand overall development process.After 6 months+You will be able to lead new features development and present new product ideas and contribute efficiently towards existing/new product features by working with the key stakeholders, including PMs, architects, and other team members, and across geographic locations.You will have complete mastery over the VMWare Workstation/Fusion and related products. You will be able to drive new features from design through implementation.Our team firmly believes in “Dev Owns Quality”, and we expect to release our products with near-zero defects and no regressions. You will deliver automated tests and documentation to support the implementation of new features and functionalities in the Desktop Hypervisor product and help solve any customer issues in the product.What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?Your regular activities may be modified to utilize your professional strengths, but you can expect the variety of following assignments.Develop new features for Workstation and Fusion. Services, User Interfaces and APIs for these products are written in C, C++ and Objective CDrive and embody the “Dev Owns Quality” culture.Triage and root cause regressions and bugs reported by our customers.Communicate with internal consumers of the team’s software and gather requirements and facilitate the adoption of your solutions.Participate and drive technical design discussions, problem-solving exercises and contribute throughout the product development lifecycle.Take ownership of existing features, improve and add new features.Communicate and coordinate with other VMware R&D organizations and support strategic partners. Advance your technical and interpersonal skills in an environment that helps to cultivate those furtherPublicly discuss relevant topics through presentations, blog posts, webinars, etc.Mentor, provide direction and guidance to junior engineers and new contributors to the project.What is the leadership like for this role?
