VMware’s xLabs program offers a unique new technology incubation program where small teams work closely to create exciting and disruptive new technologies with broad impact to the company and often moving the state of the art forward in various areas. This position will be a Platform Devops role to create and maintain a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform to showcase our latest innovation projects and solicit feedback from our customers before full productization. This will involve deploying various components of cloud architecture, helping design an optimal customer experience, developing features to ensure a reliable and performant service that delights customers, enabling telemetry and monitoring so we can understand and measure customer experience in real-time and preparing the offering to be launched in the second half of 2023. Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing? Ramp up on our code base, architecture, and development methodologies. Gain a basic understanding of some key VMware technologies and domains by attending internal training, reading technical material, and having conversations with peers and team members. Be able to operationally support existing Kubernetes clusters, AWS VPCs, RDS databases, container registries etc. Be able to contribute immediately to existing Python, Terraform, CloudFormation, Kubernetes scripts and libraries etc. Work closely with our service owners and our UI/UX experts, designers, and product managers to create and refine a world-class services platform. Work closely with other platform and engineering services teams at VMware to develop features and functionality for our service owners. Develop components for operational aspects of the platform including advanced CI/CD, monitoring, troubleshooting Work as part of a global organization to provide high SLA support for services Review others’ work and share knowledge. Receive mentoring and guidance from your senior teammates. Contribute to product direction and design discussions. Gain a deeper understanding of Devops and service technologies e.g. Kafka, Redis, Kubeflow, Carvel, Matomo etc., as you improve existing and work on new components designed to work across many end user products. The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis? Work alongside your senior teammates in designing and developing new components and initiatives. Cocreate and co-present technical presentations and partner with other teammates on advocacy and adoption initiatives. Investigate and constantly improve scalability, performance, and reliability of the platform What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?
