ODM Engineering Manager

ODM Engineering Program ManagerGeneral DescriptionThis is a key position within the R&D organization, a highly visible role with an opportunity to have an impact on Infinera’s growth and success. You will manage the design and development of optical line system products using Original Design Manufacturer (ODM) suppliers with support from Infinera’s Engineering teams. You will be responsible for the successful development and launch of new products, measured by variety of time-to-market, cost, and product quality metrics.Within the product life cycle, your work starts with a product specification that has been developed in collaboration with PLM, System Architecture, and Engineering. You will manage the ODM supplier to develop and validate the product according to specifications. Once product verification (DVT) is complete, you continue to manage the project and the ODM supplier throughout Infinera’s system integration, system validation, and hand-off to NPI for production and product release. Key competencies to be successful in this role include engineering management, project management, and supplier management.Experience RequirementsAt least 8 years of engineering / product development experience, preferably in telecommunication systemsAt least 5 years of experience in project and/or engineering managementExperience managing hardware or embedded software development projects is preferredExperience in design/development of optical communication products is an assetExperience collaborating with and/or managing ODM suppliers is considered an assetEducational RequirementsBachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Computer Science, or Physics.PMP or other professional designation is a plus.Skills and AttributesTo be successful in this role you should be comfortable immersing yourself in the technical details while maintaining a good appreciation for the broader business context. Other skills and attributes:You possess basic knowledge of Optical communication systems and components such as, EDF amplifiers, Raman amplifiers, ROADMs, optical switches, OTDR, and the likeYou understand fundamental engineering design concepts and processes.You are comfortable preparing engineering and design specifications and test plansYou have a track record of successful project delivery, from concept to productionYou possess a good understanding of key project management principlesYou are proficient communicating in English (both verbal and written) within a diverse, global teamYou are effective at facilitating cross-functional meetings with a global team.You have a track record as a self-starter who is quick to act as neededYou are organized with an acute attention to detailYou are eager to learn, and you embrace constructive feedback for career growth and developmentYou have a strong drive for excellence and continuous improvementInfinera is an equal opportunity employer.
