This team defines and builds the software platform the Fusion 360 family of products is built upon. The vision also includes using these frameworks and platform technologies supporting larger Autodesk initiatives. We are looking for an experienced, ambitious and self-driven Software Architect to help us fulfill the mission of the organization which is to drive our current and new efforts in the mission for achieving cross platform device independence and a key stakeholder and a strong influencer for our Client platform efforts around libraries, UI toolkits and more.This role also drives the strategic technical direction of the platform organization and influences the direction of initiatives such that it is for Autodesk. Oversees applied research and advanced engineering in the development of new platform deliverables, artifacts, services, or processes. Provides guidance to senior management on advanced technical issues, products, and technical acquisitions. When required, works with legal to formalize licenses and evaluate technical investments.Preference for candidates located in the United States (Pacific Time through Eastern Time zones).RESPONSIBILITIES:STRATEGIC GUIDANCE: Define and drive the platform strategic direction from a technical perspective, serving as both an information resource to executive management regarding existing performance/capabilities, and as the product/technology’s “visionary”, providing executive management with a grasp of its future capabilities and technical potential.Comprehensive responsibility for the platform/technology’s overall architecture to include ongoing reengineering and modification of the existing architecture and for creating and developing architectural advances to accommodate future features and capabilities while maintaining architectural adaptability. Evaluate the feasibility of alternative directions in future architecture/platform development through the creation of models and prototypes. Conduct effective code and architecture reviews. Ensure that the architecture achieves the desire quality attributes such as security, scalability and resilience, from the end system, product, service or module.Provide strategic and tactical direction to the product/technology’s systems development team.Create technology roadmaps, making assertions about technology directions and determining their consequences for the technical strategy and hence architectural approach.Work with other architects and tech leads to communicate technical direction to programming community.Guide the platform and various product performance management teams in identifying performance issues, consulting with technology leads regarding work priorities and systems performance cost – benefit analysis.Evaluate identified pre-release performance issues and consults with Program Management regarding the business impact of delaying the product versus the technical impact of repairing it.Team with program/project management regarding future platform and technology issues and the effect of decisions on current and future projects.Propose the creation and/or development of advanced foundational architecture that will enable future feature expansion.Explore the feasibility of product/technology modifications through new releases in response to identified user needs/interests/priorities and/or competitor capabilities.Provide consulting support in the identification and development of competitive product strategies to maintain and enhance product differentiation in the marketplace.Align the technical direction with business needs, leading the team to make the correct compromises between short-term business opportunity and long-term technical vision.TECHNOLOGICAL GUIDANCE: Provide technical leadership within the Product Line Group, the division, the company and within the industry.Act as a leader to the development community; evangelizing, communicating, and distributing technical information.Build relationships with other product groups to ensure common strategy for the company and coordination of efforts. Provide active guidance and direction to business, marketing, and technical teams assist them in understanding their interdependencies.Evaluate soundness of potential technology acquisitions and provides formal analysis of recommendations regarding capabilities, utility within the scope of the company’s existing technologies, integration issues and technology-based benefits.Investigate new technologies and develop feasibility projections regarding their potential impact upon the future technology marketplace.Contact and develop relationships with third party developers. Explain potential interface with existing products, providing insights into the possibilities of multi product/technology-based solutions to complex technology issues.Prepare and present to Autodesk management and at conferences, both internal and external. Provide training to internal and external audiences. Write and review white papers on technical aspects, future and/or architecture of products.Support infrastructure and operations of services balancing the importance of security, deployment and management of services.OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES: Work with legal to formalize licenses or other relationships.Mentor new developers on new technologies and career paths.Support the outbound marketing function in order to help them properly craft messaging that accurately touts the technology advantages of our products & solutions.Support the Platform Adoption and Development function in forming partnerships, evaluating technical investment risks & rewards, identifying & evaluating acquisition targets, etc.Support the overall Operations in integrating technical products & solutions for supporting our short/long term vision of the Industry clouds for Fusion, Forma and Flow.Broad knowledge of development tools and programming languages, understanding their appropriate application.Knowledge and support of modern development practices, such as Agile and OpenSource.May participate on standards committee or boards.May develop, identify or promote technology patents to protect the company’s intellectual property.May be responsible for design and implementation of high-quality code for complex areas.Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree in computer science or other relevant engineering discipline8 years of experience as a Software Architect or similar roleMinimum 15 years of professional experience developing, architecting various desktop, web, or mobile client-server based experiencesGood leadership skillsThe sense of ownership and pride in your performance and its impact on the company’s successCritical thinker and problem-solving skillsAbility to work well in a team to deliver on team goalsExcellent verbal and written communication skills in EnglishClick below to learn more about our benefits in the US.https://benefits.autodesk.com/ At Autodesk, we're building a diverse workplace and an inclusive culture to give more people the chance to imagine, design, and make a better world. For U.S.-based roles, we expect a starting base salary between $176,800 and $286,000. Offers are based on the candidate’s experience and geographic location, and may exceed this range. In addition to base salaries, we also have a significant emphasis on annual cash bonuses, commissions for sales roles, stock grants, and a comprehensive benefits package.
