Day-to-day activities involve working with the bioinformatics team to understand how we validate WGS for the Genomic Medicine Service. The role Illumina Laboratory Services (ILS) UK completed the sequencing for the Genomics England 100k project and is now delivering WGS for the NHS Genomic Medicine Centers. needs an exceptional candidate to help. The role is suited for an NHS STP trainee to do their 6 weeks’ elective. Responsibilities will include • Carry out your elective related work-based competencies as per your training plan• Plan together with the ILS bioinformatics team a validation related mini project and carry out the work • Present the elective work to the relevant Illumina stakeholders• Create and deliver relevant documentation required for compliance in collaboration with the ILS bioinformatics teamRequired background• You should be a current NSHCS STP third year trainee in Clinical Bioinformatics – genomics or related field Preferred background, skills and experience • An ideal candidate would have a good understanding of RGD or cancer data analysis• To be successful as an elective STP trainee you would require experience in NGS bioinformatics and able to demonstrate working with Next Generation Sequencing data analysis• We are looking for knowledge of and proficiency with standard bioinformatics and analysis tools and packages• Familiar navigating around Python and R language• Candidates should have Strong written and verbal communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders• With our fast-paced environment, you will require the ability to multi-task, stay organized, and incorporate feedback in a fast-paced environment• Experience of working within a regulated environment, ideally to medical device standards or ISO 15189 would be an advantage What can you expect You can expect to work in a multi-disciplined team, working closely with the quality team to ensure we meet our standards being an accredited company. You have the opportunity of working for the largest sequencing lab. Typical projects could include working on validating a feature in the WGS pipeline that is used to deliver results to patients where we can have a direct impact to patient health.
