Surrounded by extraordinary people, inspiring leaders, and world changing projects, you will do more and become more than you ever thought possible.The Sr Staff Strategic Sourcing Manag – Electrical Engineering is critical in supporting Illumina’s product development and shaping Illumina’s supply chain, thus improving the efficiency of genetic sequencing technology to allow for mass scale adoption, maximizing the benefits of genetic information for all. Primary role is bringing a mix of electrical engineering and supply chain focus to interface with Category Sourcing, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to successfully drive strategic suppliers through the design, development, and initial manufacturing of new instruments and technology modules.ResponsibilitiesCollaborate with technology development and R&D teams to understand Illumina’s instrument technology roadmap and identify supplier technology gaps.Bring deep technology expertise to early product development discussions to help drive an optimal mix of technology and business needs for Illumina’s future instruments.Drive critical instrument make vs. buy analyses and instrument supplier selections by collaborating with Category Sourcing, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality.Draft technical Statements of Work (SOWs) and negotiate development agreements & Development Plans with development partners achieving favorable terms that mitigate business risks and protect Illumina’s IP.Ensure supplier assurance of supply for instrument new product launches by driving new product supplier production launch readiness and manufacturing capacity with category sourcing, manufacturing, and quality teams.Ensure NPI Sourcing is represented on assigned instrument product development and technology module teams, leading key sourcing activities and initiatives.Manage design and development partners and suppliers during the development phase to ensure supplier development deliverables and pricing expectations are met while reducing business risks. Communicate and manage new product forecasts to suppliers for prototypes, production launch ramp, and predicted initial production.Manage and negotiate new product development NRE budgets with module development suppliers and instrument contract manufacturers.Deliver project status, risk assessments and financial reporting as needed.Act as an interface between category sourcing leads and engineering teams at IlluminaLeads the execution of continuous improvement initiatives within NPI Sourcing.Listed responsibilities are an essential, but not exhaustive list, of the usual duties associated with the position. Changes to individual responsibilities may occur due to business needs.RequirementsDemonstrated balance of both technical and supply chain expertise.Expertise in electromechanical product development with an emphasis on compute systems, single board computers, FPGAs, PCBAs, power supplies, and/or CMOS and active semiconductor devices.Strong knowledge of electronics and computer industry technologies and trends.Cross-functional experience on new product development teams for medical instruments or related products.Experience managing suppliers or outsourced/contract manufacturers for the development of new medical instruments or similar products.Proven experience successfully managing new Product Introduction (NPI) activities with suppliers in a dynamic, fast paced environment despite ambiguity and constant change.End to end supply chain subject matter expert with proven record of championing the function so that it is understood and accepted by the business.Demonstrated ability to lead and influence critical decisions with internal and external stakeholders.Practical experience in balancing and optimizing engineering process rigor with product delivery priorities.Experience developing and leading various RFx events.Excellent program/project management experience with the ability to develop and lead the execution of integrated program plans.Demonstrated strong execution skills and ability to drive change globallyStrong negotiator; ability to negotiate the best deal for Illumina and influence upward.Ability to travel up to 20% of the time; both domestic and international.Experience with SAP and PLM Systems.Proficient in use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point).Experience/EducationBachelor’s degree in engineering or technical related field, MBA a plusFour plus years of work experience in development and manufacturing of medical devicesLean/Six Sigma Certification a plusTypically requires a minimum of 12 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years’ experience; or equivalent experienceThe estimated base salary range for the Sr Staff NPI Sourcing Manager role based in the United States of America is: $124,300 - $186,500. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable salary range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
