Surrounded by extraordinary people, inspiring leaders, and world changing projects, you will do more and become more than you ever thought possible.The Global Market Development Manager for Emerging Clinical Applications in Genetic Disease, reporting to the Global Genetic Disease Market Segment Lead, is responsible for developing a globally syndicated strategy that drives the growing global clinical market for common, chronic diseases (including cardiovascular, neurological, metabolic, and more) using genomic technology. This person will build a global strategic plan highlighting key areas of focus in this important segment, through thorough characterization of the market, and lead cross-functional alignment in executing the global strategy.  This is a phenomenal opportunity for a visionary to help grow a rapidly moving genomics research market towards clinical maturation and make a significant impact in a core segment of Illumina’s business.  Ideal candidates for this position will have strong knowledge of genomics in emerging applications with a focus on those that have the highest potential in becoming “game changing” clinical applications in common and complex diseases. The market segment team works with a wide variety of stakeholders, both internally and externally, to ensure that our business continues to grow and that the needs of the markets we serve and the key stakeholders within those markets are reported back to the business unit. The market segment team collaborates closely with a matrixed team, which includes (but not limited to): global and regional segment marketing, product management, commercial, market access, medical affairs, finance, regulatory, legal, product development, R&D, public relations, and market research. In this position, the candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate across multi-disciplinary, international teams and cultivate key partnerships with KOLs in support of strategic programs. Successful candidates will combine strong scientific understanding with strategic business acumen and leadership skills to create detailed market assessments and strategies. An understanding of how new tests and technologies get implemented into the healthcare system would be beneficial.ResponsibilitiesContributes subject matter expertise related to future market trends within common disease to build a long-term strategic plan for this critical global segmentIdentifies, analyzes, and translates product, brand, customer, and relevant information to frame and solve business problems and build effective marketing and business plansEffectively leads research efforts in primary market research projectsDemonstrates ability to segment a market, select optimal target audiences and position technology applications effectively for the target segmentDevelop deep insight of common disease clinical market segments including customer needs and technology landscape; identify growth opportunities and build business cases that enable build/buy/partner decisionsContribute to relevant market models to identify and prioritize high-value segment specific applications that will accelerate customer adoption and use of ILMN technologiesIn collaboration with regional leads, medical affairs, and market access contribute to market development strategy and help drive alignment of strategy, messaging, and tactics globallyPartners with internal and external agency teams to develop marketing contentCollaborates deeply with upstream marketing and product management on VOC, product design inputs, and launch strategyBuilds close relationships with key customers, thought leaders, and industry influencers to stay abreast of emerging market trends and regulatory guidanceCollaboratively works with the marketing leadership team and functional management to drive the business strategyIdentify new applications, assess opportunities for new partnerships and product offerings and integrate those into strategic plansBecome the champion of the common disease clinical testing space and help drive cross-company strategic alignmentPreferred Educational BackgroundBachelor’s or Master’s degree in relevant scientific discipline required; MBA preferred.Preferred Experiential Background3+ years of experience in a strategic marketing roleMust have strong analytical skills and ability to tie detailed analysis to larger strategy.Experience with genomics markets and/or diagnostics product lines is strongly preferred.Must have demonstrated effective collaboration in matrixed or highly cross-functional business settings.Previous business strategy, business development, or strategic marketing experience related to genomics and new applications. Experience in strategic consulting or product management would be welcomed.Ability to influence across the organization at all levels, including previous experience in a highly matrixed organization would be preferred.Location at San Diego HQ is strongly preferred.The estimated base salary range for the Senior Market Development Manager, Genetic Disease role based in the United States of America is: $103,500 - $155,300. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable salary range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
