We are looking for an experience scientific leader that is passionate about driving improvements in sequencing technology and continuing to fuel improvements in algorithms. This is a unique opportunity to be a core contributor to Illumina’s mission to unlock the power of the genome by creating instruments used by research and clinical labs globally. ResponsibilitiesLead bioinformatics for design, delivery, and validation of sequencing and multi-omic technologiesResponsible for design and implementation of novel bioinformatics algorithms on the DRAGEN platformPartner with chemistry, instrument, and systems engineering colleagues to create next generation technologiesDrive continuous change in R&D processes to improve efficiency, development timelines, and qualityFoster an environment of innovation and creativity by challenging the status quo and providing staff with career and scientific mentorshipBuild relationships with external customers, partners, and key opinion leaders and represent Illumina externally Minimize schedule and technical risk by foreseeing and addressing obstacles proactively and aggressivelyHelp define and communicate the vision of clinical bioinformatics to the rest of the organization  RequirementsPhD in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics, or related scientific field, and 10+ years of experience in developing complex life sciences products, or equivalent combination of education and experienceProven track record of successfully leading major multi-disciplinary product development projects from concept to commercial release Extensive experience developing Bioinformatics algorithms for multiple technologies (NGS and microarray) and complex systemsMust effectively balance research roadmap with execution-oriented product development projectsAbility to communicate and present complex concepts to diverse audiences Results oriented leader with 5+ years leading globally distributed teamsThe estimated base salary range for the Director, Bioinformatics role based in the United States of America is: $197,200 - $295,800. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable salary range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
