In this position, you will help engineer enzymes with desired properties, develop novel formulations, and initiate reagent optimization. Your work will enable project teams to make critical decisions on reagent development. ResponsibilitiesEngineer proteins to improve shelf-life (e.g. resistance to high temperature, oxidation, etc.).Biophysical and biochemical protein characterization and demonstrate their predictive value for reagent performance and quality.Construct Design and execute assays for critical components of Illumina sequencing reagents.Analysis Analyze of characterizationexperimental data including translating results intoand propose new hypothesis hypothesis-driven follow-up experiments.Participate in multi disciplinarily projects and interact with engineers, chemists, and protein scientists, to deliver novel consumable reagents used in Illumina’s platformsRecognize potential problems, understand and troubleshoot experimentsHelp write experimental protocols, summaries and reportsWork as part of a scientific team and participate in team meetings and initiatives.Employ statistical methods for data analysis and to drive decisionsOther duties that may be determined by managementSkills, Education & Experience:BSc/MS +7yrs, PhD +0-3yr industry experience in protein engineering, biochemistry, molecular biology, biophysics, bioengineering, structural biology or other related areas;Experience with at least 2 protein characterization methods such as high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Differential Scanning Fluorometry (DSF), enzymatic activity assays, etcExperience in optimization of protein formulation for increased performance and enhanced stability desiredDemonstrate ability to implement complex protocolsStrong understanding of statistical significance, and replicates, controlsExpanded data analysis skills, proficient with Excel, JMP experience a plusDemonstrated ability to work independently, as well as part of a cross functional teamThe estimated base salary range for the Senior Scientist role based in the United States of America is: $86,500 - $129,700. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable salary range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
