The Senior Staff Firmware Engineer will develop embedded software for new, industry-leading genetic analysis platforms for life sciences and clinical markets.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Design and develop firmware using C and RTOS for use in genetic analysis instruments.Architect, develop and integrate firmware from the early concept phase through release to manufacturing.Perform complex analysis and develop computation algorithms and controls for complex distributed electromechanical systems.Work with other disciplines (EE, ME, SW) to define requirements, design, test, and debug embedded systems.Produce professional documentation.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:MS, PhD in EE, CS, Biomed, ME Ctrl, or equivalent work experience required.10+ years’ experience developing firmware for complex distributed embedded system with distributed computation platform.Mastery of the C programming language, C++ experience is a plus. Mastery of firmware architecture design with RTOS on MCU and MPU, and firmware device communication and SoC such as CAN, I2C, UART, SPI, RS232, Ethernet TCP/IP, ADC, DAC, USB.Strong experience in low level device drivers and safety critical firmware system design.Strong experience in Object Oriented Programming and firmware design for reliability and robustness.Strong experience in the use of real time scheduling and synchronization concepts.Strong experience in the use of embedded RTOS such as ThreadX, FreeRTOS, QNX, etc.Strong experience in electromechanical systems and sensor and actuators such as robotics, Stepper & DC motors, imaging sensors, encoders, motion sensors, etc.Ability to read electrical schematics and datasheets and to collaborate in design input and reviews.Proficient in the use of oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and JTAG devices.Strong expertise in firmware test and test automation.Experience with the GNU software development toolchain including gcc, binutils, and gnumake.Use of source code management (SCM) tools (Git, Perforce, etc.).*nix Scripting languages such as Bash, Python, TCLPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Experienced at developing medical devices requiring FDA approval.Familiar with FMEA processes, DI traceabilityComfortable developing and presenting presentations with wider groups.Experience with FPGA/Xilinx program logic and processor IPFamiliar with IEC software life cycle.Listed responsibilities are an essential, but not exhaustive list, of the usual duties associated with the position. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable salary range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
