You will have knowledge and skills typically acquired through previous positions in vibrant global commercial environments involving similar responsibilities and also current license to practice law in a common law jurisdiction. Experience in life sciences or a high-tech environment would be an advantage.You will be highly organised and proactive with the ability to work as an effective business partner and provide leadership to our dynamic legal team. You will have a logical and process-driven mind with a keen eye for detail. Excellent communication skills and the ability to develop relationships with all parts of the business including the executive leadership team is essential. You will take a common-sense approach in your day-to-day work and have the confidence to make well balanced and informed decisions with practical benefits.The Role:The Associate Director will report into and support Director of Legal, role will involve providing comprehensive, business-oriented advice, and bringing extensive legal and industry specific insights to Illumina. The role will involve providing the full range of legal, commercial, transactional, and regulatory advice and will involve management of an international team of lawyers and contract analysts.Responsibilities will include:Supports/manage legal business matters pertaining to the organization, and in particular the EMEA region.Acts as advisor, or coordinates with external counsel, on legal issues including but not limited to corporate, commercial, and licensing transactions, the organization's government and regulatory compliance, data privacy and risk mitigation, contentious matters and transactional intellectual property issues.Drafts documents to support same.Reviews legal and business data and advises the organization on appropriate legal action to be taken.Will manage legal matters handled by outside counsel related to personnel and property matters.Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the EMEA legal team.Manages the EMEA team.Support/direct internal and external counsel on a broad range of matters, including outside counsel performing litigation on the company’s behalf.Preferred background, skills, and experience:At least 8 years of post-qualification legal experience.Law degree (or conversion course) and satisfaction of requirements for professional practice in the Europe.Current license to practice law in a common law jurisdiction required (qualification in any of the UK, EU, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, or US sufficient), qualification in an EU jurisdiction a plus, but not required.English language fluency required, additional foreign language skills in EMEA countries a plus, but not required.Knowledge and skills typically acquired through previous positions in vibrant international commercial environments (particularly EMEA) involving similar responsibilities.Executive presence, and experience interacting with senior internal and external personnel.Experience in exercising good judgment in selecting methods and evaluating criteria for obtaining actionable practical solutions and business-oriented results.Demonstrated ability to work as an effective business partner, particularly to a commercial team.Experience managing a team of lawyers/Contracts Analyst is required.Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills (including the ability to be a member of goal oriented legal team with a flat hierarchy).Self-motivated to drive work/projects forward.An individual who takes a common-sense approach in their day-to-day work and has the confidence to make well balanced and informed decisions with practical benefits.Be able to grasp quickly and accurately new and complex concepts and areas of law.Be able to work under pressure and as part of a team.Have a dynamic approach to work and an eagerness to work closely with the business providing pragmatic advice.What can you expect:With Illumina you can expect a highly competitive salary accompanied by a market leading benefits package.
