Surrounded by extraordinary people, inspiring leaders, and world changing projects, you will do more and become more than you ever thought possible.Sr. Staff Bioinformatics Scientist – Image ProcessingIllumina is seeking a highly driven and talented bioinformatics scientist to join the Bioinformatics organization, where we are developing novel informatics solutions for Illumina’s multi-omics technologies.  Members of the team collaborate closely with lab scientists and engineers to develop new assay and computational workflows. The team is responsible for defining and creating software and workflows that enable efficient analysis of imaging and next-generation sequencing data, developing novel methods and best-in-class algorithms to be deployed both locally and on Illumina’s cloud computing environment. The position requires a strong background in image processing and algorithm design.ResponsibilitiesClosely interact with assay scientists and engineers to solve challenging image processing and next-generation sequencing analysis problemsEvaluate and implement both established and new image processing algorithms (C++ and/or Python)Design, develop, debug and integrate optimized software on Linux for multi-threaded applications.Work closely with bioinformatics scientists to translate prototype algorithms to production softwareMaintain awareness of industry trends and evaluate applicability of new software technologies or methods to platform development effortsMaintain rigorous quality and performance standardsEducation:Bachelor of Science degree or higher in computer science, mathematics, data science, bioinformatics or related fieldRequired Skills & ExperienceImage processing expertise: segmentation, registration, compression, stitching, object detection, distortion correctionExtensive knowledge and experience with C/C++ and/or PythonGood understanding of object-oriented analysis and designProficient with tools for software debugging and troubleshooting (GDB, etc.)Proficient with tools for software performance analysis and optimizationDemonstrated success in collaborating in a fast-paced team environment and delivering high-quality software products using established agile development methodologies (such as Scrum, Kanban, etc.) against formal schedulesPreferred Skills & ExperienceAdvanced degree in computer science, mathematics, data science, bioinformatics or related fieldExperience with microscopyExperience developing algorithms for next-generation sequencing or other biological dataIllumina believes that everyone has the ability to make an impact, and we are proud to be an equal opportunity employer committed to providing employment opportunity regardless of sex, race, creed, color, gender, religion, marital status, domestic partner status, age, national origin or ancestry, physical or mental disability, medical condition, sexual orientation, pregnancy, military or veteran status, citizenship status, and genetic information.
