Pay Rate:$75,240.00 - $112,860.00Sr. Mechanical Engineer, HydrogenStatus: Exempt (salaried) Department: HydrogenPosition SummaryThe Sr. Mechanical Engineer, Hydrogen, is a vital team member to support activities related to developing and continual operation of Plug Power’s H2 infrastructure. The H2 Sr. Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the specification, analysis, testing, and integration of mechanical and electromechanical components used in hydrogen infrastructure systems. These components include pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, valves, instrumentation, piping, and fittings. This position also provides expertise related to system design, mechanical assemblies, development of drawings, system troubleshooting, documentation, and more. In addition, the H2 Sr. Mechanical Engineer must be a skilled collaborator who can engage cross-functionally with various team members to align efforts and synergize work activities affecting H2 infrastructure. This position is critical to ensuring optimal H2 infrastructure systems deployment to our highly valued customers.Core Duties and ResponsibilitiesWork to thoroughly understand Plug Power’s Hydrogen fueling system projects including but not limited to: customer site requirements, usage parameters, troubleshooting history, design limitations, and optimal system performance targetsConduct plume studies for hydrogen dispersion or oversee a 3rd party conducting a plume studyManage the engineering change control process for H2 infrastructure designs, documents, and Bills of Material (BOMs). Build relationships and engage in regular communications with cross-functional colleagues in departments such as: field service, manufacturing, supply chain, and quality in order to understand the functional requirements of H2 infrastructure for each.Analyze and test components used in H2 infrastructure design; document findings and provide suggestions for system refinement and improvements.Lead efforts to integrate components into H2 infrastructure design; partner cross-functionally to ensure seamless communication and execution.Learn and apply other country code standards including, but not limited to Europe, South Korea, Australia, etc.Assist with troubleshooting as needed to maintain system uptime for customers.Read and interpret Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) as necessary.Collaborate with internal project teams as necessary for hydrogen deployments, such as safety studies.Always represent Plug Power in a professional manner and in all interactions.Perform all other duties as assigned.Education and ExperienceMinimum of a Bachelor’s degree, (Masters’ preferred) in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, from an ABET accredited university.Minimum of Twenty (20) years of design experience creating construction documents for industrial, power, oil & gas, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, food & beverage facilities with significant expertise in more than one of the core industries served by our client.Experience preparing, reviewing, and approving PFD’s, P&ID’s, piping orthographic and isometric drawings, bill of materials, equipment, and piping specifications.Working knowledge of control valve and flow meter sizing and selection and approvalWorking knowledge of process controlsThorough understanding of piping flexibility and stress analysisWorking knowledge of ASME BPVC, Division 1Working knowledge of API standards – 520, 521,Working knowledge of piping codes - ASME B31.1, B31.3, PEDWorking knowledge of NFPA fire codes (NFPA 1, 2, 56)Working knowledge of pressure drop calculations for incompressible and compressible fluidsReviewer and approver of equipment and piping specifications, pressure relief device sizing, pump, and other process equipment selectionsDirect experience applying of electrical area classification – NFPA 497, API RP 500, ISO 60079-(Series), ATEXWorking knowledge of IBC building codeWorking knowledge of cryogenic processes is a plusAbility to travel as needed to domestic or internationally, to customer sites for infrastructure project work; approximately 10% to 20% of the timeComputer and software systems skills as applicable to position including but not limited to: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook, AutoCADStrong verbal and written communication skillsUncompromising dedication to qualityDemonstrated analytical abilities with strong attention to detailAbility to manage complex projects and multi-task effectivelyLicensed Professional Engineer required (PE or Peng).We offer a fantastic total rewards package at Plug, and a brief summary is below:✓ Base salary is determined on a number of factors including but not limited to education, experience, skills, and geography.
