We offer a culture that is ideally suited to people who enjoy the focus, collaboration, and discipline required to shape innovative technologies into real-world products.The Mechanical Engineering Technician will build and test hydrogen fuel cell systems, instrumentation/data acquisition systems, and collect data as defined in the test plan and in consultation with the test and systems engineers. The person will contribute to build fixture and assembly improvements and test station improvements. The ideal candidate will have excellent hands-on problem-solving skills and be able to exercise independent judgment. This technician must be able to effectively communicate with the cross-functional engineering teams, should be creative, self-motivated, and able to handle multiple project assignments within a fast-paced engineering organization.Core Duties and ResponsibilitiesBuild fuel cell systems for product development using fixtures and tools, and improvise the process as needed.Develop and fabricate fixturing, tooling, and test benches to support fuel cell system build and test. Organize and coordinate fabrication and build activities with others in the organization. Document the build process, build configuration and parts used for traceability.Perform detailed tests on systems and components as per an established test plan or in consultation with an engineer to measure performance and durability.Identify and define problems in the product being tested or the test process, suggest improvements to the team and implement solutions.Collect and analyze test data ensuring that the test conditions are properly adhered to.Identify unusual changes in the system behavior or test station behavior and take corrective action.Perform test setups in accordance with the established process and improve the process.Develop and write reports based on tests conducted.Become familiar with key system performance parameters.Always work in a safe manner and ensure that equipment and test hardware is properly assembled and maintained.Communicate with engineering staff to resolve design details and problems.Some travel required; support system installations at customer/partner sites. Always represent Plug Power in a professional manner and in all interPerform all other duties as assigned.Education and ExperienceAssociates degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, or a similar technical field or military certification, and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.3+ years of related work history preferably within a technology product manufacturing environment in product build and testing.Ability to debug and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems.Experience in testing technically complex products such as fuel cells, automotive, engines or powertrains, power generation, renewables, energy storage products like batteries or capacitors, or similar products is a big plus.Mechanical experience with installing instrumentation and control elements (thermocouples, pressure transducers, control valves, etc.)Experience building and testing fluid, electrical, and mechanical systems. Experience reading mechanical drawings and system P&IDs (process and instrumentation diagrams).Experience with a structured engineering change process and related procedures.Experience in reducing and analyzing data.
