Pay Rate:$62,700.00 - $94,050.00Electrochemical Engineer, ElectrolyzersStatus: Exempt (Salaried)Department: ElectrolyzerPosition SummaryThe Electrochemical Engineer, Electrolyzers role will support the design, development, and manufacturing scale-up of electrolyzer electrode materials and components for current and future products. The occupant of this role must maintain an acute knowledge of electrolyzer product performance requirements and the role of individual component, material, and process selection to overall performance, durability, cost, and manufacturability. The role requires extensive knowledge of materials processing, especially processing and modification of carbon-based components in electrochemical cells. This information must then be used to help make effective engineering decisions related to materials usage and optimal material integration within Plug Power’s electrolyzer products while leveraging existing production methods and capabilities. Through extensive mechanistic understanding of the electrode components and coordination of electrochemical and materials characterization efforts using internal instruments and external resources, the Electrochemical Engineer, Electrolyzers will help drive continual improvements in product design and performance.Core Duties and ResponsibilitiesWork on internal and government funded research projects in the design, development, evaluation, and analysis of electrolyzer components including carbon-based electrodes, porous transport layers, gas diffusion media and membrane electrode assemblies (MEA)Develop and maintain best practice and protocols for component design, development, and evaluationScale up component production using high-volume processes by assisting with development capabilities in-house or interacting directly with vendorsWork with purchasing, suppliers, machine build and facility engineers to specify, choose suppliers, review designs, and qualify equipmentAnalyze complex mechanisms of electrolyzer performance loss and degradationDemonstrate leadership in several areas of team, task, and project lead responsibilities.Actively participate in the new product introduction team as it relates to supplier quality, supporting product and process design and developmentRepresent Plug Power in a professional manner in all interactions; support the philosophy of the organization to provide high-performing technology to maximize customer satisfactionPerform other duties as assignedEducation and ExperienceMaster’s Degree in Renewable Energy, Materials Science, Electrochemistry, Mechanical or Chemical EngineeringStrong hands-on experience in a laboratory or prototyping environment0-3 years of relevant work and/or research experience – preferably within an R&D or manufacturing environmentFamiliarity with electrolyzer components such as bipolar plates, porous transport layers, gas diffusion layers, flow fields, and other components requiredExperience with electrochemical devices (fuel cells, electrolyzers, batteries) requiredAbility to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environmentExceptional data analysis and presentation skillsAbility to think logical and critically to measure the pros and cons and take the most appropriate decisions from the available resourcesDemonstrated aptitude for systems thinking and creative problem solvingAbility to work effectively in both a self-directed and team environmentAbility to manage multiple projects, prioritize, and meet deadlinesDynamic interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with diverse audiencesStrong organizational skills and attention to detailProficient computer skills including Microsoft Office softwareMust be highly driven and motivated to achieve goalsWe offer a fantastic total rewards package at Plug, and a brief summary is below:✓ Base salary is determined on a number of factors including but not limited to education, experience, skills, and geography.
