Pay Rate:$22.12 - $31.68Lab Technician, 2nd ShiftStatus: Non-Exempt (Hourly), 2nd Shift (3pm-12pm)                                               Department: Chemical Engineering - 285Position SummaryPlug Power is the industry leader providing hydrogen-powered fuel cell systems for material handling equipment, backup power and on-road vehicles. The second shift microscopy technician will support the Latham, NY facility laboratory.  This will include sample collection, mounting/polishing and measurement/analysis using light and scanning electron microscopes.  Flexibility to support other needs and coverage, as required, are a must.  The successful candidate must be self-motivated, able to handle multiple assignments and willing to learn and adapt in a customer-centric organization.Core Duties and ResponsibilitiesRequires high attention to detail and organizational skillsDemonstrated ability to work independentlyPractical hands on for sample collection/preparation (sectioning, epoxy mounting, polishing)Operates and maintains lab microscopes.Prior Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) experience is a plus but not required for the right candidate. SEM experience preferred.Understands and follows OSHA Lab Standard and GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) guidelines at all time.Performs test methods for raw materials characterization, samples from failed cells, research projects from a variety of sources and identification of trace contaminants.Works with senior microscopy personnel to learn new and complex analytical techniques.Takes direction from lab management and analytical teams using best practice procedures.Provides input for and supports continuous improvement projects of Plug Power analytical tools and processes.Participates in cross functional teams to provide input with respect to analytical characterization of samples.Technical report documentation.Represent Plug Power in a professional manner in all interactions; support the philosophy of the organization to provide high-performing technology to maximize customer satisfaction.Assist in Developing and executing instrument validation.Perform all other duties as assigned.Education and ExperienceAssociates degree in chemistry, mechanical engineering, material science or other relevant field of study; BA/BS degree preferredMinimum of 3 years of relevant experience in chemistry, mechanical engineering,  material science, life science or other relevant field of experience 1-3 years of experience using and developing analysis techniques in supporting, manufacturing, product/process development and R+D environments.Experience in PEM fuel cell materials and component development, process analysis and troubleshooting support a plus.Prior laboratory experience requiredStrong organizational abilities and attention to detailProficiency with Microsoft Office softwareUncompromising dedication to qualityTeamwork oriented and focusedExcellent task-oriented follow-throughWe offer a fantastic total rewards package at Plug, and a brief summary is below:✓ Base salary is determined on a number of factors including but not limited to education, experience, skills, and geography.
