Pay Rate:$62,700.00 - $94,050.00Mechanical Engineer/Cryogenics, HydrogenStatus: Exempt (salaried)                                                                 Department: HydrogenPosition SummaryThe Hydrogen Mechanical Engineer is a vital team member to support Plug Power’s Hydrogen fueling and infrastructure systems.  The Hydrogen Mechanical Engineer is responsible for designing, analyzing, testing, and integrating mechanical and electromechanical components. These components include but are not limited to pumps, compressors, vaporizers, valves, and others.  This position also provides expertise related to system design, mechanical assemblies, development of drawings, system troubleshooting, and documentation.The successful candidate must be a skilled collaborator who can engage cross-functionally with various team members to align efforts and synergize work activities affecting hydrogen systems.  This position is critical to ensuring the deployment of optimal hydrogen fueling and infrastructure systems to highly valued customers.Core Duties and ResponsibilitiesWork to thoroughly understand Plug Power’s Hydrogen fueling system projects including but not limited to: customer site requirements, usage parameters, troubleshooting history, design limitations, and optimal system performance targetsDesign of thermal & structural cryogenic componentsVerification and validation of cryogenic components (eg. Valves, storage vessels, cryocoolers, compressors, etc.) used in hydrogen infrastructure design; document findings and provide suggestions for system refinement and improvementsManufacturing support of cryogenic and H2 fueling systemsFailure and reliability analysis of cryogenic components and systems (eg. compressors, valves)Prepare/present design analysis reports and part/assembly drawing reviewsDesign leadership of productivity projects (both product cost and life cycle cost reduction)Build relationships and engage in regular communications with cross-functional colleagues in departments such as: field service, manufacturing, supply chain, and quality to understand the functional requirements of hydrogen infrastructure for each.Partner closely with hydrogen system design team members while providing input related to component usage, layout/design, performance needs/constraints, and overall system specifications to help optimize design efforts.Apply previous experience with cryogenic systems to analyze and develop new system processesLead efforts to integrate components into hydrogen infrastructure design; partner cross-functionally to ensure seamless communication and execution.Develop engineering drawings as needed to support hydrogen infrastructure systems and project work. Manage the engineering change control process for hydrogen infrastructure designs, documents, and Bills of Material (BOMs). Read and interpret Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) as necessary.Collaborate with internal project teams as necessary for hydrogen deployments.Represent Plug Power in a professional manner at all times and in all interactions.Perform all other duties as assigned.Education and ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related fieldA minimum of Four (4) years of experience in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field with an emphasis on thermodynamic processes.Experience with ASME Section VIII Div 1, ASME B31.3, NFPA 55, NFPA 2 and in cryogenic manufacturing and/or design preferred.Ability to travel as needed in the domestic U.S. to customer sites for infrastructure project work; approximately 10% to 20% of the time.Mechanical systems expertise and troubleshooting ability.Proven track record in project management; delivering quality results on-time and on budget.Experience in any of the following spheres of activity is preferred and highly valued:Hydrogen and/or fuel cellsCryogenic IndustryHigh Pressure Systems (450 Bar and up)Gas processing and/or dispensing equipmentCryogenic, CNG, LNG, LIN, LOX, LH2, etc…Computer and software systems skills as applicable to position including but not limited to: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook. Strong verbal and written communication skills.Uncompromising dedication to quality.Demonstrated experience in the design, analysis, development, and operation of cryogenic systems.Ability to manage complex projects and multi-task effectively.Excellent follow-through. Must be driven and self-motivated.We offer a fantastic total rewards package at Plug, and a brief summary is below:✓Base salary is determined on a number of factors including but not limited to education, experience, skills, and geography.
