Principal Electrical Engineer, HydrogenStatus: Non-Exempt (hourly)Department: HydrogenPosition SummaryThe Electrical Engineer is a critical member of the Hydrogen Manufacturing, Project Executions, and Development teams.  This position is responsible for developing and maintaining the design of hydrogen production, compression, liquefaction, storage, and dispensing systems at all Plug Power plant locations. By partnering with the engineering, production, commissioning, and plant operation/maintenance teams, the Senior Electrical Engineer will develop a thorough understanding of the process and performance requirements of the Hydrogen plant and will be an integral part to continually improve its effectiveness and design. The Electrical Engineer will be an integral part to help in the enhancement of the current technology, establishing and developing processes to grow the Engineering department, and assisting in the development and design of new facilities.  This role is vital to support Plug Power technology in the field while also furthering the Company’s reputation as the industry leader in hydrogen generation/liquefaction plants.  Core Duties and ResponsibilitiesDevelop electrical system requirements, electrical schematics, harness drawDevelop and deploy solutions for hydrogen infrastructure systems focused on process improvements and optimal system performance.Provide leadership when deploying solutions for H2 design to ensure appropriate communication and achievement of deliverables.Support Plug’s execution team, EPC contractors, and Sub-Vendors in the design of the balance of plant for new Hydrogen facilities.Design and review for electrical power system architecture, main electrical components and connections (transformer, PDC, MCC, rectifier, VFD, sync-transfer system, MV electric motor for different types of process compressor), and overall high power/voltage solutions.Develop electrical specification for new hydrogen plants.Review vendor quotes and prepare bid tabulations.Develop, read, approve, and maintain comprehensive project documentation including equipment specifications, electrical and mechanical diagrams, single line diagrams, three-line diagrams, short circuit studies, and familiar with flow charts, cause/effect diagrams, and Piping and Instrument Drawings (P&IDs).Responsible for the review and approval of contractor electrical design deliverablesPartner with key stakeholders and leadership to understand their objectives and develop a strategic plan and cross-functional roadmap to support.Work with our Development Group to develop new sites and technology to support efficient and innovative growth of Hydrogen production.Support all new project and some active sites as required.Proactive in providing value-added solutions to current designs.Partner with Operations, Engineering, and outside vendors to prioritize critical tasks to meet projects objectives most optimally.Work cross-functionally to assess current state, gather requirements, and translate specifications for the execution of projects, delivery of technology solutions and products.Work cross functionally to continue the evolution of product and manufacturing design.Collaborate with Operations Teams to develop Lessons Learned and Process Improvements.Develop Engineering processes and standards for Hydrogen production and plant design.Become a leader and expert for all Plug power Electrical equipment and systems.Mentor team members on design work and act as senior technical resource for guidance.Represent Plug Power in a professional manner at all times and in all interactions.Exempt employees are expected to work as many hours as is necessary to complete their job responsibilities.  This may require they work more than eight hours a day and more than five days or 40 hours per week.Education and ExperienceBachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and 15+ years relevantBachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.10 or more years of relevant work history in Electrical Engineering.Experience with Sub-stations, PDC, MCC, rectifier and overall high power/voltage.Experience with balance of plant work for a new construction project.Must be driven and self-motivated.Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.Demonstrated analytical abilities with strong attention to detail.Superior written and oral communication skills.Ability to manage complex projects and multi-task effectively.Experience in leading and/or coordinating cross-functional teams.Strategic thinker with exceptional analytical skills.Must possess the highest ethical standards and a commitment to work quality.Ability to travel as needed to carry out duties of the position – up to 15%.Pay Rate:$86,815.00 - $138,904.00We offer a fantastic total rewards package at Plug, and a brief summary is below:✓Base salary is determined on a number of factors including but not limited to education, experience, skills, and geography.
