Sr. Environmental & Permitting SpecialistStatus: Exempt (Salaried)Department: Energy Solution (Project Development) Position SummaryJoin Plug Power’s Project Development team to help build the first generation of commercial-scale green hydrogen production plants in North America and kickoff the next major step in decarbonization of the transportation and industrial sectors.  In this role you will support the Project Development team by managing all aspects of environmental assessments and permitting associated with the development and construction of green hydrogen and associated renewable energy facilities.Core Duties and ResponsibilitiesManage the environmental review and permitting for a portfolio of green hydrogen production facilities and associated renewable energy generation facilities in support of the project development and construction/engineering teams, including;Identify and vet capable third-party consulting organizations that will perform environmental assessments and assist the Plug with environmental review and permitting initiatives.Schedule and oversee the completion of environmental site assessments as part of site due diligence efforts (e. g. Phase I ESA, T&E species of concern studies, wetland delineations) from the desktop and in the field, as required.Perform project management responsibilities for environmental studies and permitting projects, including reviewing and managing scopes of work, budgets, schedules, and issue resolution.Lead the development of NEPA or similar state-level reviews (i.e., CEQR, SEQR, etc.) documentation, including the assessment of project-related effects on environmental resources.Lead the development of technical studies and coordinate Plug’s multi-disciplined environmental contractors in scheduling and executing fieldwork.Identify and characterize Federal, state, and local permitting requirements associated with the development and construction of hydrogen and renewable energy projectsDevelop strategies to avoid or minimize project effects and/or permitting requirements.Lead and/or participate in consultation with state and federal permitting agencies and the public, including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, state environmental agencies, etc.Work with the GIS team to ensure Plug’s existing GIS system includes all pertinent available environmental data sets to facilitate in identifying suitable hydrogen and renewable energy siting opportunities.Support the Project Development team in environmental and/or permitting presentations to landowners, public officials, and other project stakeholders.Coordinate with the Operations team at Plug Power to understand the environmental and safety aspects of hydrogen production facilities and develop materials for the broader team to use in communications with landowners and public officials.Remain abreast of the technical aspects of hydrogen and renewable energy technologies.Once a project is permitted, transfer to the execution teams and Compliance Permitting Manager for construction management. Provide ongoing support to the construction project managers, as required, throughout the construction process. Provide background on permitting and environmental compliance throughout the construction and operation of projects. Education and ExperienceBachelor’s or Master’s degree8+ years’ experience working with permitting including federal, state, and local environmental permits.Experience with wetlands, fisheries, terrestrial, water quality, and other related environmental studies.Demonstrated understanding of the NEPA process and experience leading the development of Environmental Assessments and/or Environmental Impact Statements.Proficiency with MS Office suite, ARCGIS,  strong people skills, excellent written and verbal communications skills.Self-motivated, positive, flexible, team-oriented attitude with a willingness and desire to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.Exempt employees are expected to work as many hours as is necessary to complete their job responsibilities.  This may require they work more than eight hours a day and more than five days or 40 hours per week.  Pay Rate:$75,240.00 - $112,860.00We offer a fantastic total rewards package at Plug, and a brief summary is below:✓ Base salary is determined on a number of factors including but not limited to education, experience, skills, and geography.
