We are actively in the process of integrating our fuel cell products into various industries, including electric vehicles, backup power systems, trains and planes, material handling systems, and more. This is a high-growth environment, and the Director of Systems & Components Engineering will play a key role in ensuring our fuel cell products meet the needs of our customers, are produced cost-effectively with healthy margins, and meet high standards for reliability and durability.As the Director of Systems & Components Engineering, you will lead a team of mechanical, systems, and chemical engineers and technicians, providing technical, organizational, and strategic leadership. Your team will be responsible for the system level design of Plugs Fuel cells as well as the proper selection or design, testing, qualification, and reliable performance of major components utilized in fuel cell systems, such as pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, sensors, actuators, pressure vessels, and more. You will work with vendors, conduct lab-based testing, and analyze data to ensure our fuel cell systems meet the essential needs of our customers and maintain our market leader position for PEM-based fuel cell technology.This role requires technical expertise, leadership skills for both people and projects, and the ability to manage in a high-growth environment. You will be accountable for talent development, organizational metrics, performance, growth, and alignment with the overall business strategy. The Director of Systems & Components Engineering reports to the Engineering leader for Fuel Cell Systems.Core Duties and ResponsibilitiesEnsure that fuel cell products meet essential customer needs, are cost-effective with healthy margins, and meet high standards for reliability and durability.Maintain the market leader position for PEM-based fuel cell technology and ensure cutting-edge performance in areas relevant and impactful to customers.Advance plug powers fuel cell capabilities and facilitate with the integration of fuel cell technologies into various markets such as EV, Back-up power, Aerospace etc.Develop requirements specifications for Fuel Cell systems and sub-systems and provide technical direction to other groups responsible with development.Perform DFMEAs on Fuel cell systems and help drive reliability and safety through design.Produce P&ID diagrams for Fuel-Cells along with detailed requirements for each component used in its construction.Collaborate with vendors, conduct lab-based testing, and analyze data.Possess technical expertise, leadership skills for both people and projects, and the ability to manage in high-growth environments.Accountable for talent development, organizational metrics, performance, growth, and alignment with the overall business strategy.Improve departmental efficiencies by identifying and implementing best practices, process improvements, and cost-saving initiatives.Provide dynamic leadership to managers, engineers and technicians; coach to achieve professional success.Effectively manage team priorities & resource allocation to meet the immediate & future needs of the business.Establish performance goals & objectives and provide critical feedback to foster growth.Work with the Certifications team and ensure designs meet compliance.Support programs associated with product development, component development, cost reductions and reliability improvements.Ensure the proper selection or design, testing, qualification, and reliable functioning of major components utilized in fuel cells, such as pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, sensors, pressure vessels, and more.Manage subsystem and component specification creation and maintenance.Exhibit a professional demeanor while representing Plug Power in all interactions, while also aligning with the organization's philosophy to deliver high-performing technology that maximizes customer satisfaction.Undertake any additional tasks or responsibilities as directed.Education and ExperiencePreferred industries include fuel cells, automotive, appliances, industrial products, complex electromechanical systems, and other related fields.Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in mechanical, electrical or systems engineering, preferably in a business with a manufacturing environment for technology products.4 years of leadership experience with at least 3 years in a management role.Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities, with a talent for effective collaboration with cross-functional teams.BS degree in mechanical engineering or another closely related engineering discipline.Experience with Product & Component certification processes, Eg. UL, ETL, ASME etc.Experience in full lifecycle, structured product development within a fast-paced industry.Strong technical background science and engineering.Demonstrated ability to develop and implement processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness.Desire to coach, lead and develop team members.Experience with system component management, heat & mass transfer, incompressible & compressible flow, & pressure vessels (preferred).Strong problem-solving skill with experience with structured problem-solving processes.Experience with CFD and FEA, systems modeling and control systems a plus.Experience with Toll Gate based product development systems of similar with emphasis on visual management.Demonstrated aptitude for systems thinking and creative problem solving.Familiarity with ISO9001 (preferred)Exceptional communication and presentation skills.Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.Role model for teamwork and effective collaboration.Proficiency with Microsoft Office software.Results-oriented and driven work style.Excellent task-oriented follow-through.Turn strategy into action.If you are a strategic leader with a strong technical background and a passion for driving innovation, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity to lead the mechanical engineering team at Plug.
