Principal Technology Engineer DepartmentPlug Process Systems The successful candidate will begin to take direct engineering responsibility for the conceptual design of process technologies and leading engineering team during project execution phase. This position requires a broad engineering background and a deep understanding of liquefaction, thermodynamics, and heat and mass transfer.The candidate will be required to solve various problems involving two-phase fluid flow, gas separation, heat exchanger and cryogenic equipment design, etc.Fundamental heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and thermodynamic knowledge.Steady-state process simulation experience (Aspen, Hysys, etc.).The incumbent will participate or lead process development projects, designing and developing new process concepts that may involve lab and field tests and analyzing results to improve the design and performance of the system.The incumbent will communicate the results and technical decisions to the team and stakeholders.Provide technical leadership in program/project definition, planning, execution, and evaluation.Understand business needs, define technology solution options, and develop research programs to address those needs.Communicate technical decisions through design documents, technical talks, and internal team communications regularly and effectively.Support projects for liquefaction, Carbon Capture, Hydrogen production, Ammonia production and cracking, Gas Treating and Fractionation.Prepares a variety of complex engineering deliverables for multiple or mega projects.Lead with technology to identify and meet owner needs.Provide the technology know-how for all our projects.Provide the project foundation with all process and technology solutions.Lead implementation of solutions through the project life cycle: feasibility, FEL stages, FEED, detailed design, EPC, and commissioning.Is responsible for one or more of the following: leading engineering and operation teams; coordinating multiple discipline activity; and serving as the responsible charge for projects.Assisting with identification of key client interests and drivers and may determine the key clients in some instances.Communicates client interests and drivers to project team members and develops approaches to accommodate these concerns in the performance of the work.Typically oversees performance management, career planning, recognition, learning and development, and corrective actions.Supervises work of others.Responsible for hiring, discipline, and pay administration of their subordinates.Lead development projects from proof of concept to implementation through a stage gate process.Responsible for budgeting projects while working closely with the Project ManagerEnsure data accuracy and consistency.Develop new models and methods for engineering applications based on data and analytics.Support Process Engineering team to incorporate improvements into design methods, engineering tools, and work practices.Reach out to business/product owners; understand the business needs, create ideas to support these needs, and offer solutions.Develop IP positions, publish patents/papers present at conferences as needed.Support other R&D initiatives.Regularly communicate with Process Engineers and Start-up Engineers to identify improvement opportunities.Required Education and Experience:Minimum Bachelor’s in Chemical Engineering, higher education is a plus.10+ years of experience in process development, conceptual design and/or process optimizations within complex oil, gas or chemical industries.Proficiency of overall process design, including Hysys simulation, process controls, equipment specification, P&ID and HAZOP.Candidates for this U.S. position must be a U.S. citizen or national, or an alien admitted as permanent resident, refugee or asylee.Membership in a professional society is a plus.Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.This position involves up to 20-25% travel to domestic/global locations.The Ideal Candidates will have: Knowledge of chemical engineering “First Principles” .Working knowledge of ASPEN, HYSYS and/or process simulation software.Knowledge of cryogenic process technologies which can include cryogenic air separation, natural gas liquefaction, hydrogen liquefaction, helium processing and liquefaction, etc.Knowledgeable in natural gas processing technologies.Understands basic applicable engineering codes.Proven teamwork skills.Sound organizational skills for completing tasks as scheduled.Strong communication skills both verbal and written for the purpose of explaining challenges and solutions internally.Good interpersonal skills to successfully interface other engineering disciplines and customers.
