As part of the Sonos team, you’ll collaborate with people of all styles, skill sets, and backgrounds to realize our vision while fostering a community where everyone feels included and empowered to do the best work of their lives.We are looking for an American English Linguist to join the Language Team (based in Paris and Boston) and help us build the Sonos Voice Experience.What You’ll DoYou will work on the development and maintenance of the American English voice assistant (Sonos Voice Control) running on Sonos devices. Your tasks will include:Understanding new voice use cases and effectively supporting them within Sonos Voice Control to ensure a premium, intuitive and up-to-date voice experienceProducing (or supervising the production) of the textual and audio data used to feed our machine learning modelsEnsuring a constant high level of data quality (which includes, among other tasks, the quality review of externally produced data, and the phonemic transcription of the voice assistant vocabulary)Assessing the quality of our Machine Learning models before new versions of Sonos Voice Control are releasedDesigning user surveys, analyzing and incorporating users’ feedback to evolve our modelsParticipating in the specification and testing of the Language Team internal toolingYou will work hand in hand with our other American Linguist, and will closely collaborate with other Machine Learning and technical teams, as well as cross functional teams (User Experience, Quality Assurance) and Product Managers.Skills You’ll NeedBasic Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Linguistics or Natural Language ProcessingPerfect proficiency in American English (native American English speaker or equivalent level)Working knowledge of General Linguistics, applied to American English (Phonetics, Phonology, Semantics, Syntax and Morphology)Use of spreadsheets for data management and basic statistical analysisAbility to understand formal representations, and willingness to learn (a lot of!) new technical concepts and toolsVery strong organizational skillsAbility to work in close collaboration with different teams, to adapt to their needs, and to convey accurate and relevant information about your languageAbility to focus on tasks requiring precision and meticulousnessPreferred QualificationsKnowledge in Natural Language Processing (formal grammars, regular expressions, etc.) and/or in command line (unix-style terminal)2-3 years of experience as a Linguist in the tech industryPassion for music, and extensive knowledge of musicians/artists Speaking French is also a plus, but is not requiredWe consider a wide range of factors when determining compensation, which may cause compensation to vary depending on your skills, experience and qualifications.  This job is also eligible for discretionary bonuses as well as an opportunity to become a Sonos shareholder because all full time employees are eligible for stock grants.  The minimum base pay may be modified in the future based on changing market conditions.
