You will work both independently and as part of a team. Join us! As a manufacturing engineer, you will research, design, develop, test, certify, deploy and improve cutting edge products and services. These cover a very wide range from advanced mission payloads and electronic systems through highly integrated aircraft to orbital and space exploration systems. You'll consult with program management, design engineers, quality, and production teams in order to develop the most efficient and cost effective means of producing our products at the highest level of quality possible. Your technical duties involve reviewing engineering designs for producibility and the development of tooling and fixtures, work instructions, production process and procedures. You will be involved in the application of manufacturing technologies and industry best practices during the design and development of new products and processes throughout the product lifecycle.Sierra Space, based in Louisville, Colorado with operations in Madison, Wisconsin, Durham, North Carolina, and Kennedy Space Center, Florida, designs and manufactures advanced spacecraft, satellites, propulsion and environmental systems, spacecraft subsystems and components for the U.S. government (including NASA), commercial customers and international organizations. As a manufacturing engineer you will assist in design, development, manufacturing, testing, and integration of propulsion systems. These cover a wide range of applications from our Dream Chaser vehicle to LIFE habitats as well as engines for external customers. Immediate job responsibilities include reviewing engineering designs for producibility, developing manufacturing flow diagrams, development of tooling and fixtures, work instructions, managing and assisting with hardware development, builds, and rework, coordinating resources & materials, supporting troubleshooting & diagnostics of electrical, mechanical, or gas/liquid systems, supporting & coordinating hardware testing, procurement of components, supplier communication, and hands-on assembly & testing of flight & prototype hardware. Candidates should have excellent communication skills, the ability to function independently in a technically demanding environment, and a willingness to work with a diverse team of engineers, technicians, and support staff.Must-haves:Bachelor's of Science degree in Engineering or related discipline and typically 3 or more years of relevant experience. Relevant work experience may substitute for required education. Conceptual knowledge of engineering principles and practicesExperience with Computer Aided Engineering toolsFamiliarity with working in multi-disciplinary design and development teamsDetail oriented, dependable, and able to independently determine/set task priority and implementation plansFamiliarity in applying and interpreting Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5Ability to speak & communicate clearly between muti-disciplinary teamsPreferred:Hands on experience manufacturing and/or assembling mechanical or electrical components & assembliesUnderstanding of fluid fundamentals, including liquid and gas storage, piping, and control using pumps and valvesUnderstanding of propulsion systems and componentsAbility to read and comprehend electrical (wiring) and fluid schematics.Ability to use & interpret sensor & scientific data for troubleshooting, diagnostics, and performance evaluation of component hardwareKnowledge industry standard design principles, to include, but not limited to parametric design, model-based definition, material hardware selection, manufacturing and production processesParticipation in dispositions of Non-Conformance generation through a Material Review Board (MRB)Strong design for manufacturing and assembly (DFMA) skills, including tolerance stack-upsExperience with work instruction/traveler development and/or other technical writing.Experience with new product introduction and transition to productionExperience with labor and non-labor basis of estimatesExposure to Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Manufacturing Execution System (MES), and Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP) systemsThe ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance may be required.
