Sierra Space in Madison, WI, is looking for a talented and energetic Mechanical Engineer to be a part of our growing mechanical engineering team.Sierra Space, based in Louisville, Colorado with operations in Madison, Wisconsin, Durham, North Carolina, and Kennedy Space Center, Florida, designs and manufactures advanced spacecraft, satellites, propulsion and environmental systems, spacecraft subsystems and components for the U.S. government (including NASA), commercial customers and international organizations. Learn more about Sierra SpaceMembers the Low Pressure Gas team develop components and systems that distribute airflow and control gaseous composition through space vehicles and ISS payloads for environmental control and life support. The position requires interdisciplinary knowledge and expertise, which the team applies to solving system-level challenges. Mechanical, electrical, fluid dynamics, materials, thermal, manufacturing, and testing process skills are all applicable. Potential future areas of focus include developing high pressure gas systems, liquid systems, thermal control systems, LED lighting systems,  environmental sensors, and biological support systems in spaceflight.Immediate job responsibilities include requirements development, creating conceptual and detailed designs, analysis, interfacing with other design teams and disciplines, prototyping and testing, communicating with suppliers and procurement, and participating in technical reviews (design, test readiness, manufacturing readiness, etc.) with customers. Additional responsibilities include supporting internal manufacturing, test, and verification teams. Candidates should have excellent communication skills, the ability to function independently in a technically demanding environment, and a willingness to work with a diverse team of engineers, technicians, and support staff.Must-haves:•    Bachelor's of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline with a minimum of 6 or more years of relevant experience•    Conceptual knowledge of engineering principles and practices•    Experience with Computer Aided Engineering tools•    Familiarity with working in multi-disciplinary design and development teamsPreferred:•    Familiarity with applying and interpreting Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5•    Experience designing mechanical components & assemblies using CAD tools•    Experience drafting, dimensioning, and applying proper tolerances to drawings•    Knowledge and experience with mechanical design tolerance stack-up analyses•    Experience in related fields, such as Aerospace and Defense, manufacturing, or design•    Understanding of incompressible flows and pressures, and their interactions•    Understanding of Engineering Simulation such as Finite Element structural Analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Thermal Analysis  IMPORTANT NOTICE:To conform to U.S. Government international trade regulations, applicant must be a U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State or U.S. Department of Commerce.With 30+ years of proven spaceflight heritage, Sierra Space has provided more than 4,000 space systems, subsystems and components to customers worldwide, and participated in more than 500 missions to space, including to Mars.
