As a thermal protection system CNC Programmer/Machinist IV, you will be responsible for programming and machining thermal protection parts and materials for Sierra Space’s Dream Chaser®. You'll be responsible for programming, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting CNC mills and/or machining tools and equipment to meet established specifications and requirements. You will be the primary programmer/operator who defines the tools and techniques to optimize our manufacturing solutions. You will also have additional opportunities to cross-train across all aspects of thermal protection system production.Sierra Space, based in Louisville, Colorado with operations in Madison, Wisconsin, Durham, North Carolina, and Kennedy Space Center, Florida, designs and manufactures advanced spacecraft, satellites, propulsion and environmental systems, spacecraft subsystems and components for the U.S. government (including NASA), commercial customers and international organizations. Learn more about Sierra Space.Must-haves:Minimum 7-year professional programming and machining experience: TPS tile preferred; aerospace or similar industry will be considered.Associate degree in a related field of study may substitute for experience.Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings, diagrams, schematics, and manuals.Comprehensive understanding of the use and maintenance of specialized TPS equipment, including CNC mills, equipment controllers, general manufacturing equipment, measurement instruments, hand tools, and power tools.Experience programming and operating milling machines; at a minimum, 5-Axis CNCAbility to operate computer-based interfaces used for CAD/CAM, documentation, data input, and equipment automation.Ability to perform standard/general machine shop/manufacturing technician tasks, including, but not limited to, repetitive tasks that may include lifting and/or moving heavy objects.Preferred:Previous experience and/or certifications within the aerospace and defense industry.Previous experience in a clean room environment.Previous experience in a manufacturing environment.IMPORTANT NOTICE:To conform to U.S. Government international trade regulations, applicant must be a U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State or U.S. Department of Commerce.With 30+ years of proven spaceflight heritage, Sierra Space has provided more than 4,000 space systems, subsystems and components to customers worldwide, and participated in more than 500 missions to space, including to Mars.
