As a Principal Electrical Engineer, you will provide technical expertise and leadership within the Electrical Power Systems (EPS) team to develop, analyzes, tests, and certify complex EPS products that drive performance and reliability of the Dream Chaser spaceplane!Sierra Space, based in Louisville, Colorado with operations in Madison, Wisconsin, Durham, North Carolina, and Kennedy Space Center, Florida, designs and manufactures advanced spacecraft, satellites, propulsion and environmental systems, spacecraft subsystems and components for the U.S. government (including NASA), commercial customers and international organizations. Learn more about Sierra SpacePrimary Responsibilities Include:Originate specifications, control documents, verification and validation plans, procedures, reports, and other documentation in support of design and development activities.Prepare material for and present to Engineering and Program review boards to adjudicate technical baseline changes.Ensure product manufacturability, testability and supportability.Participate in design/vehicle integration and test activities following Program and Company related requirements/procedures.Research, analyze, and diagnose power system and performance anomalies by utilizing hardware documentation, software tools, and/or test results, as necessary, to resolve EPS related issues.Interface with prime contractor EPS System engineers, NASA Engineers, and other Sierra Space engineers.Validate and verify requirements through test, analysis, inspection, or demonstration.Review and disposition vendor SRDLs.Analyze power system sizing and performance.Perform and/or review power system modeling and simulations.Support the development of power systems architectures (power generation, power storage and power control & distribution).Must-haves: Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or other related discipline and typically 14 or more years of relevant experienceAdvanced knowledge of engineering principles and practicesThorough understanding of Computer Aided Engineering toolsExperience working in multi-disciplinary design and development teamsExperience with EPS development and integration onto an aircraft, launch vehicle, or spacecraftPreferred: Advanced Engineering degreeExpertise with the development, integration and test of one or more of the following: power electronics, solar arrays, low voltage / high voltage batteries, and power distribution systemsKnowledge of power electronics andExperience composing and analyzing Electrical Load Analysis (ELA), power circuit modeling, simulation, and analysisKnowledge of industry-standard electrical design principles, to include, but not limited to model-based definition, electrical power component selection, manufacturing, and production processesExperience leading hardware qualification campaigns, and ability to determine root cause and identify solutions to hardware failures and/or anomaliesExperience with hardware/software integration, verification, and validation effortsAbility to think outside-the-box, self-disrupt, trade multiple options, anticipate problems, and implement mitigationsExperience with technical subcontract management, and management of engineering schedules and milestonesExperience supporting procurement by identifying best-of-industry suppliers and maintaining impeccable supplier relationships throughout the lifecycleExperience effectively developing and delivering technical presentationsSome travel may be requiredThe ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance may be required.
