As a Sr Principal Structural Engineer, you will be using your skills and expertise to design, evaluate, and certify our cutting edge products and services. These cover a very wide range from advanced mission payloads and electronic systems through highly integrated aircraft to orbital and space exploration systems. You'll examine complex metallic and composite structures and systems. Your technical duties involve the design and development of new products and processes throughout the product lifecycle.Sierra Space, based in Louisville, Colorado with operations in Madison, Wisconsin, Durham, North Carolina, and Kennedy Space Center, Florida, designs and manufactures advanced spacecraft, satellites, propulsion and environmental systems, spacecraft subsystems and components for the U.S. government (including NASA), commercial customers and international organizations.Learn more about Sierra Space Primary Responsibilities:•    Lead the development of structural design standards, processes, and guidelines for both metallic and composite structure•    Lead the integration of structural design tools into our digital environment•    Support integration of Advanced parametric modeling with internal loads finite element modelsMust-haves:•    Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering or other related discipline and typically 17 or more years of relevant experience•    Relevant work experience may substitute for required education•    Comprehensive understanding of engineering principles and practices•    Experience with working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams•    Experience working all phases of a development program from preliminary design through certification•    Experience working with metallic and composite materials including a strong understanding of material selection and manufacturing and production processesPreferred:•    Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering•    Experience using Advanced CAD tools such as NX or CATIA•    Experience with Fibersim or Composites Work Bench•    Experience with parametric design and Model Based Definition•    Experience with MRB support•    Experience with woven, unitape, sandwich design•    Experience with complex machining and sheet metal design•    Experience with 3D Printed Part Design•    Experience lofting complex surfaces•    Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry •    The ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance may be required •    Learn more about the background check process for Security ClearancesSalary range; $144,936.50 - $199,287.69IMPORTANT NOTICE:To conform to U.S. Government international trade regulations, applicant must be a U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State or U.S. Department of Commerce.With 30+ years of proven spaceflight heritage, Sierra Space has provided more than 4,000 space systems, subsystems and components to customers worldwide, and participated in more than 500 missions to space, including to Mars.
