Director of Data EngineeringWorkiva is seeking an experienced Director of Data Engineering to lead our data engineering team and drive data-driven decision-making across the organization. As the Director of Data Engineering, you will be responsible for understanding the data needs of the enterprise, developing and executing a strategic roadmap to maximize data capabilities, and transforming data into insights that inform business strategy. With new products and services on the horizon, you will play a key role in scaling our data engineering team to meet the evolving needs of the business. Join us in this exciting opportunity to drive data excellence and unlock the full potential of our data assets.What You’ll DoCollaborate with Business & IT teams to establish and communicate a clear data warehouse strategyManage a team of data engineers, providing leadership and guidance to a diverse team of entry-level to senior-level engineersDesign, build, and manage data pipelines for data structures, including data transformation mapping, data flow diagrams, logical and physical data models, and metadata collection, ensuring data integrity and qualityProvide technical leadership, direction, and oversight to build reliable and scalable data pipelines, data models, and data visualizationsCollaborate with all functions of Workiva to ensure data needs are addressed and the required data is modeled and available to analysts and end-usersAssure that all IT data models (Conceptual, Logical, and Physical) are documented to facilitate efficient and effective use of dataLead planning sessions with internal business customers to improve business processes and prioritize investments in data and infrastructure, understanding business needs and translating them into data solutionsWork closely with the Enterprise Center of Excellence (ECOE) and Principal Engineers to ensure that all data systems align with the technology strategyUtilize best practices for naming, governing, managing, modeling, cleansing, transforming, moving, storing, and searching all dataEnsure changes to the data environment are compliant with architectural standardsLead design and data model reviews, providing constructive feedback to Application DevelopersSupport and influence data governance initiatives, promoting data-driven decision-making and fostering a culture of data excellence within the organizationWhat You’ll NeedBachelor’s degree in information management, data science/analytics, or a related field10+ years of overall experience working with data and information management tools.At least 8 years of experience working with the physical and logical architecture of data systemsMinimum of 5 years in a technical leadership and management role, showcasing experience in leading and mentoring teamsMust have experience with modern data visualization tools; Qlik, Power BI, Tableau etc., Big Data environments; Azure Synapse, Snowflake etc., Cloud Data warehouses, ETL tools and practical experience creating such environments and delivering on business ROIProven track record of driving self-service reporting and fostering a data-driven culture within an organization, promoting data democratizationProficiency in data modeling software tools such as Erwin or ER/StudioExperience in project management planning, organizing, coordinating, and managing staff, clients and/or partnersHow You’ll Be Rewarded:Salary range in the US: $167,000.00 - $284,000.00A discretionary bonus typically paid annuallyRestricted Stock Units granted at time of hire401(k) match and comprehensive employee benefits packageThe salary range represents the low and high end of the salary range for this job in the US.
