Join us as we change the way millions of people work.About the RoleThe Workday ML Runtime team is seeking an energetic and determined Software Engineer to design, implement, and deliver highly scalable features for our Machine Learning Runtime platform. As a member of this fast paced group you will have a unique and rewarding opportunity to shape and contribute towards microservices that power Workday Machine Learning features in production. You will partner with Data Scientists, ML Engineers, and other Software Engineers to create the technology that that brings these features to life.Key Responsibilities:Design, implement, and maintain large-scale systems (1M+ requests per day) that bring machine learning models into productionUnderstand perspectives and feedback from internal users of Workday's Runtime Platform and use those insights to design new featuresDesign interfaces and define SLAs for internal customers to access our platform componentsTroubleshoot, improve, and scale Continuous Integration pipelinesWrite design documents to build consensus for new systems components and enhancements to existing componentsDevelop relationships with software engineers, machine learning engineers, and data scientists on partner teamsRespond to alerts and debug production issues; incorporate lessons learned into future features and enhancementsReview pull requests from data scientists and software engineers, and implement consistency, performance, readability, and security across codebaseDevelop documentation to share knowledge with other engineersAbout YouIn addition to using your technical abilities to drive feature development, you must have a mentality of continuous improvement, passion for quality, scale, and security. Basic Qualifications:B.A./B.S. in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or similar4+ years of full-time industry experience in software engineering, preferably with some machine learning exposure4 or more years of experience programming in Python with knowledge of Bash / Linux command line4 or more years of experience designing and deploying high-performance systems in production2 or more years of experience leading technical initiativesExperience with service mesh architectures such as IstioExperience working with cloud environments like AWS, GCP, and DatabricksExperience in a platform engineering roleExperience building applications on KubernetesDevOps experience and knowledge of common industry tools like Helm, Kustomize, ArgoCD, Prow, and JenkinsOther QualificationsMaster's or PhD in Computer ScienceKnowledge of machine learning serving frameworks like Ray and KubeflowExperience with data pipelines (e.g. Dagster, Airflow)Experience working with ML components like model registries and feature storesExperience with Kubernetes operators and custom resource definitionsStrong communication and interpersonal skills An ability to balance a sense of urgency with shipping high quality and pragmatic solutionsSelf-motivation and a strong sense of ownership.As a federal contractor, Workday is requiring all new hires to verify that they are fully-vaccinated against COVID-19 within 72 hours of beginning employment with Workday, consistent with applicable law.
