The Student application suite consists of 10 products that span the lifecycle of academic needs from recruiting through graduation. If you are passionate about leading teams that are building scalable user experiences through partnership, collaboration, and iteration with product managers, architects, and engineers then this is the role for you.About the RoleWe are seeking a highly motivated and transformational Director of Software Development Engineering to lead a distributed team of innovative and experienced engineers. You will be responsible for leading development teams to build features and capabilities for the Higher Education industry.  You will take on the challenge of partnering with product leaders to drive an evolving product and technical vision, while supporting the needs of current customers.  You will have responsibility for your teams’ on time delivery of high-quality software to customers, while collaborating with partners across the organization in discovery and scoping efforts for future efforts.Build and lead teams to develop software applications for the Higher Education industry, in an iterative, agile environment.Work with internal Workday stakeholders to build and execute a development roadmap that balances the needs of the stakeholders, available staffing, and the priorities for the business.Collaborate with product managers, architects, and engineers to analyze functional requirements, assess technical solutions, and ensure the teams deliver.Drive continuous improvements in teams’ productivity, job satisfaction, and product quality. Influence and collaborate across all teams in coming together towards a common business goal and product architecture.Grow the organization by hiring key talent and mentoring existing team members.Have fun and be a good person.About YouBasic Qualifications8+ years of experience of leading software engineering teams, 4+ years managing people leaders.8+ years of experience with operations, development, and testing of cloud-hosted software products.8+ years experience with developing and integrating commercial software solutions to deliver an intuitive and comprehensive set of product features and capabilities to customers.BS in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other relevant field.Other QualificationsExcellent organizational skills, attention to detail, exceptional communication skills, and validated ability to lead and deliver projects within a given timeline and resources.Comfortable working at a fast pace with small teams to develop and deliver a world-class suite of products for Workday's Higher Education customers.Strong team management experience supporting great engineering teams, with a track record of continually improving organizational health and growing engineering leaders. Experience as a Software Development Engineer.Experience with Agile development methodologies.Experience leading by influence and managing through change, while acting with integrity.High emotional intelligence and the ability to form trust-based relationships up, down, and across.As a federal contractor, Workday is requiring all new hires to verify that they are fully-vaccinated against COVID-19 within 72 hours of beginning employment with Workday, consistent with applicable law. Workday is an equal opportunity employer.
