Job SummaryThe Cable Landing Station (CLS) Technician is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the submarine cable system equipment located at Equinix’s facility located in El Segundo, California. As one of the main points of contact, the technician will be responsible for ensuring that all repairs, planned work, and customer requests meet with Equinix and the customer’s service level obligations and agreements. The technician must also follow the processes and procedures as defined in the Joint System Maintenance Document (JSMD) for each system and handle issues efficiently by providing timely resolutions, workarounds, and status updates. The CLS Tech and CLS Lead Tech will share daily responsibility for the maintenance, operation, and repair of the cable systems. The CLS Tech will also be available when the CLS Lead Tech is unavailable due to holidays, vacation, or illness. Equinix technicians will be available to support both CLS Techs as needed, with coordination.ResponsibilitiesManage the submarine cable system power feed equipment (PFE), transmission equipment (SLTE), line monitoring equipment (LME), and network management system (NMS) maintenance (scheduled and non-scheduled), operations, and repair under procedures defined in the JSMD or as directed by the submarine cable system Primary NOC (PNOC).Coordinate all Equinix associated activities and obligations of the submarine cable landing station, as it relates to submarine cable system, as agreed with the PNOC and submarine cable system owners.Observe activities to assure compliance with government regulations.Confer with submarine cable system owners and Equinix senior management to comply with station policy administrative procedures.Act as First Level escalation point and handle faults related to the submarine cable system network.Support, proactively manage, and monitor the submarine cable system network as directed by the PNOC.Analyze and diagnose complex networking problems, identify issues, and resolve faults in coordination with the PNOC and submarine cable system owners.Liaise and task Equinix personnel to manage and clear both network and customer faults as required.Liaise with Equinix on-site building support personnel for matters relating to impacts/potential impacts to submarine cable system as it relates to building security, power, and heating/cooling.Liaise with vendors when required to ensure efficient operation of the submarine cable system network.Liaise with DHS or other agencies as required to ensure compliance with submarine cable system regulatory obligations in matters such as site access, site visits, views of visitor logs, and preparation of reports.Communicate with the submarine cable system PNOC and escalate where necessary both internally and externally to meet Service Level Obligations and Agreements.Activate new services as directed by the PNOC and submarine cable system owners onto the network and ensure quality is maintained by testing and ensuring any network changes are recorded and logged into appropriate databases.Follow global work instructions as identified in the submarine cable system JSMD procedures and ensure service quality.Maintain proper documentation and case history in service ticket database as required by the PNOC and Equinix.Manage onsite equipment setup and operation, maintenance, and repair. Coordinate with the cable repair vessel(s) via PSMs and/or email, utilizing closed-loop communications as appropriate during cable repair operations.Coordinate with submarine cable system Cable Landing Stations in Taiwan, Philippines and Chile during cable faults and coordinate for COTDR test along with the PNOC.Reduce downtime on services by providing workarounds and alternatives.Be available on site during normal business hours and available on a call out basis at all other times as required in the Service Level Obligations and Agreements.QualificationsCertification(s) from equipment vendors, and/or industry governing bodies is preferred.2+ years of telecom experience in operation and maintenance of submarine cable systems as a Submarine Cable Landing Station Technician or Station Manager.Proven track record in operation and maintenance of a submarine cable system including system testing, fault finding, repairs and safety requirements.Proven proficiency is required in PFE maintenance and operations including branch unit powering/reconfiguration as directed by the PNOC.Experience in operation and maintenance of SLTE. Experience with multiple vendors (TE Subcom, Ciena, Infinera, etc.) is a plus.Knowledge of submarine cable systems, DWDM systems, trouble ticketing system, and network management systems.Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.Team Leader, Team Player, Good Communicator, Flexible, Resourceful, Proactive, Multi-Tasking.Languages: English written and verbal communications (Cantonese or Mandarin is desirable)The targeted pay range for this position in the following location is / locations are:California (Non-SF/Bay Area), Connecticut, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Washington state: $63,000 to $98,000Our pay ranges reflect the minimum and maximum target for new hire pay for the full-time position determined by role, level, and location.
