In this role, you will be responsible for leading our Global Business Development Payments Team - developing global partnership strategy and launching & growing global payment partnerships that accelerate growth for eBay while improving operating cost leverage. The BD Director will execute and manage partnerships as it relates to global payments acceptance, disbursements, financial products & services, and risk. As a seasoned leader, you will translate business needs into strategic partnerships, acquisitions, and investment opportunities. The ideal candidate should be able to thoughtfully navigate strategy, relationship management, and business building and is expected to be highly independent and daring. Additionally, the candidate will be encouraged to use industry knowledge and personal networks to identify unmet needs and emerging trends, actively pursuing opportunities. You thrive in a global team environment and can lead both internal and external partner relationships through strong collaboration and communication.Key Responsibilities:We are searching for someone to play three key roles:Optimize established relationships with major global payment partners.Drive and structure new global deals across regions and markets.Develop a network of fintech companies for strategic investment and M&A.What You’ll Do:Evaluate new business development, critical initiatives and partner management for the Payments vertical, performing a broad range of quantitative and qualitative analyses.Source, negotiate and implement global high priority strategic partnerships in alignment to our business model and priorities.Work with both internal and external product, operations and marketing teams to drive successful partnership outcomes.Develop deep relationships with key global strategic partners aligned with OKRs.Collaborate with Payment leaders as well as regional leaders to develop and complete partnership strategies and initiatives. As such, the Director will oversee:Owning and refining overall business development strategy, processes, structure, and standard methodologies.Leading commercial relationships with our largest global payment partners through constant optimization and new opportunity development.Extending our global reach through expert discovery and exploration of new and untapped business opportunities and relationships.Identifying potential acquisitions, equity stakes, or other forms of investment in companies that can accelerate Payment’s strategy.Managing proposal response process, including detailed RFP requirements, content creation, and inputs from various sources.Supporting new deal structuring through business value analysis; negotiating pricing and other commercial terms.Leading the development of proposals and presentations for eBay leadership, in order to achieve agreement on new partnerships and business opportunities.Facilitating the investment process in coordination with appropriate internal partners such as CorpDev.Monitoring and evaluating industry trends and customer drivers and aligning regularly with management and partners to discuss strategy.Identifying trends and customer needs, building a short/medium/long-term business development pipeline in accordance with targets.Influencing industry rules and networking with key external partners at the network and association level. Key Skills:Deep experience working with Payment Networks, Processors, and Financial Services companies, and extensive senior relationships with business leaders across the Payments vertical.Excellent use of insights and data-driven decision making.Handle a high volume of engagements and thrive on the fast pace of our company without compromising on an ability to dive into the details and finer points of deals.Commercial thinking: grounded in value creation and able to understand costs/ benefits in deal-making.Relationship building work with cross-functional teams and external partners to become a go-to contact for key decision makers.Negotiation: ability to identify and navigate key contractual trade-offs and counterparty care-abouts.80/20 balance: couple attention to detail with swift execution - we need to do things quickly, and we need to do them well.Able to balance the role of strategist with urgency while simultaneously managing and delivering results in a growing and very fast-paced environment. Qualifications:Minimum of 10-15 years of related work experience – business development, partnerships, M&A, or related experience.Portion of the above experience applied within ecommerce, payments, marketplaces, or risk industry.College or Advanced Degree preferred. Benefits are an essential part of your total compensation for the work you do every day. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave).
