Opportunity Overview: We are looking for a Senior Director of Tax, to join our growing Finance team.  Reporting to the CFO, this person is a strong leader, critical thinker, problem solver, and key collaborator whose mission is to enable Cohere’s long-term financial health by creating appropriate tax strategies that mitigate risk and exposure.  The new team member will be responsible for all tax matters, will lead strategic tax planning initiatives, and will manage relationships with outside tax professionals. This role will be hands-on, interacting and collaborating with Accounting, FP&A and outside service providers to ensure the accurate and timely execution of tax functions. What you will do: Formulate tax plans and strategies, including minimizing organizational tax liability and ensuring compliance with tax code changes, collaborating with corporate counsel or company advisors to determine the tax implications of legal strategies, assessing current tax practices and implementing processes and procedures to increase the efficiency of the tax department, and resolving critical tax inquiries Provide leadership and strategically manage all U.S. Federal and State income tax matters for all 50 states; perform analysis regarding the U.S. Federal and State tax impact of business transactions and other planning strategies Review sales/use tax returns for multiple states and keep up with changes to state laws that impact the Company Ensure that the company is utilizing and receiving credits that should be available that make business sense to pursue and that reflect good corporate citizenship Ensure compliance with ASC 740 and support all audit requirements; calculate the company's tax provision to ensure the company's U.S. Federal and State income tax expense, liability and deferred taxes are properly reflected in the financial statements Manage process for quarterly estimates and annual extensions calculation and payments, as well as analysis / reconciliation of tax accounts Oversee the work of all external tax consultants Coordinate and support all IRS and state audits Manage the tax compliance calendar to ensure all tax deadlines are met by keeping up to date on tax law changes, court decisions, tax regulations and company-initiated developments Complete special projects as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer Your background & requirements: Minimum of 10-15 years of multi-state indirect tax experience, including responsibility for managing sales/use tax and/or personal property tax compliance and controversies and providing planning support and system integrations Located in Boston, Massachusetts, preferred You are a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with experience at a Big 4 accounting firm Experience providing advisory and performing product analysis for sales/use tax determinations and multi-state software and technology tax technical knowledge Experience with tax accounting and reporting under US GAAP, including accounting for uncertain tax positions and accounting for stock-based compensation Experience with US federal and state corporate tax compliance You demonstrate strong tax technical, research and analytical skills You have strong experience writing clearly and persuasively, for tax professionals and business executives You love problem-solving in a fast-paced environment ad thrive collaborating with others to solve challenging problems  You are an excellent communicator and can align interests across a diverse set of stakeholders You’re an ambitious self-starter eager to build something from the ground up; you have a hands-on mentality and a ‘no task is too big or too small’ attitude You are someone that can be both strategic and tactical and can easily move between the big picture and on the ground execution   We can’t wait to learn more about you and meet you at Cohere Health!
